Juliano's RAW
I posted some stuff on my blog about my visit to Juliano's RAW in Santa Monica but I felt like I wanted to talk about it here too =)
i went to Juliano's RAW today with my sister-in-law, sister, niece and son. We ordered a few different things and shared the items so we could taste a bunch of things.
We shared: mochas, strawberry smoothies, thai salad, spring rolls, crackers and guacamole, lasagna, avocado sandwich and coconut cheesecake.
I loved the mochas, spring rolls, crackers and guacamole, avocado sandwich and coconut cheesecake.
The lasagna was okay, I'd get it again.
I could have done without the thai salad which was lacking something and wasn't worth the money at all.
Let me just say that the mochas were so good. Warm and soothing, loved them. The coconut cheesecake was AMAZING. It didn't taste super cheesecakey but it was so fricking good i didn't care.
The spring rolls were really good. Kinda sweet, not super crunchy so I was fooled that they were raw. The sauce to dip them in was soooo good. It was a not-peanut sauce but I am not sure what was in it. Tasty.
I really did enough the visit there and I did see Juliano which was kinda cool. I will go again sometime and get the mocha, cake and spring rolls again. All in all a good visit. My only complaint is that the prices were so high for such small portions. I don't mind paying for organic food but i swear the lasagna was gone in all of 4 bites. Like, charge me 15 bucks and give me a bigger portion or something.
Anyways, try it if you're in LA!

I've actually had Juliano's book since like the xmas of 2000 and I'vemadesome great stuff that turned out well. Some of it has too many ingredients! Sadly, the things I loved weren't in the recipe book=(

Ok you know you were suppose to post pics ;)
It'a an unwritten rule, that when describing good eats out or in, onemust post pics!!!!
It is, therefore, evident that it is possible to cure by foods, aliments and fruits; but as today the science of medicine is imperfect, this fact is not yet fully grasped. When the science of medicine reaches perfection, treatment will be given by foods, aliments, fragrant fruits and vegetables, and by various waters, hot and cold in temperature.

I think the desserts are the best part too. I had dinner there on my last trip down and went back the next day for dessert.

Juliano's raw box
Hi there,
I'm a big fan of Juliano's restaurant. I live near it and go there often when I want a departure from my own salads. I've taken his 3 hour class too which was pretty good.
I went to the Hollywood Bowl for the 4th of July and to make sure I enjoyed my picnic experience while my SAD eating friends brought their favorites, I ordered the raw box from Juliano's. It's a great deal! $$ $50 which sounds like a lot but you get bottled water, a raw juice drink, a lunch entree, a dinner entree, an appetizer, a snack, AND one of his great desserts! My friends were all eating my food too.
It was a great time.

My favorites are the Truffle Salad, nut loaf, and chocolate shakes.

I absolutely LOVE Juliano's! I've been there three or four times and the food is amazing. My favourites are the Chocolate Milkshake, the Chesse-y Melt sandwhich, and the coconut cheesecake! I still need to try so many things, but I'm sure it's all great.

Actually, the menu doesn't include everything they serve.

I want to jump in here and say that I also really liked Juliano's while I was in LA a few weeks ago... it seemed to me to be a real-deal dining experience.
The presentation of the items is top-notch; there is a kind of artistry going on there. His place is only the 2nd raw restaurant I've been to, but compared to the SAD restaurants I've been to (many of them having just been awesome back when I had more interest in SAD), I have to say that RAW in Santa Monica compares very well "experience" wise. This justifies the price to me.
.................oh, and did I mention the food was *AWESOME*?

I had a mixed experience at Juliano's. I took my mom there and we shared a few items. The menu was just HUGE and I was totally overwhelmed about what to order. My mom ordered a special and didn't even want to bother looking at the menu. I kind of just ended up putting my finger on something and ordering it - the bacon burger which came with "fries", and the server recommended a mushroom soup/stew. Everything was beautifully presented, but the drawback that we both agreed on was that everything was so salty we couldn't taste what would have been beautiful, layered complex flavors of the amazing ingredients. I don't know if it was just the way it was prepared that day, or if that was the norm. (When we got home seven hours later, my hubby had made a lovely miso soup for us and my mom couldn't even look at it! She was like, "No more salt!!" )
I really didn't like the zucchini fries. I tried to like them. They were just dehydrated beyond recognition, and the bread coating was so dry and hard and salty... the ketchup and mustard were quite good, though. I will have to try to make some.
My mom ate all of her special Meat and Potatoes dish. She was very hungry and said that it was too salty but she'd eat it anyways. She was impressed with the creativity and amount of sauces that it came with. I think the gravy tasted like wasabi - I liked it!
Luckily we had all ordered young coconuts to drink, and after the liquid was gone they cracked them open for us. The meat inside was a great palate cleanser for all the salt.
My daughter was excited to hear that they had pumpkin tortellini - I asked the server how the "pasta" was - that it needed to be soft and not difficult to chew. She assured me that the vegetable (pumpkin) was very thinly sliced then marinated so it was very soft. She unfortunately confused this dish with the ravioli. The tortellini was dehydrated and impossible to chew, the chips were spread with a little pumpkin seed butter and then another tough little chip sat on top. She ate some of the pumpkin butter then dumped the rest of them into my mushroom soup.
Oh - also we had some desserts, a mocha cheez cake and the fruit crepes. The cheez cake was lovely and rich. The fruit crepes... well the crepe was dehydrated mango, which was way too tough so you couldn't cut it and it was too messy to pick up. And I asked specifically for a dessert that didn't have chocolate, so my daughter could enjoy some and it came out with chocolate sauce all over it. The vanilla nut creme inside with the fruit was very nice, and she enjoyed some of that.
I ordered a couple smoothies for the road, and they were very good. Also a pack of sesame seed balls. I don't know what they were made of actually, but very simple and good energy food.
I would go back, but I might order very differently next time. I didn't see one on the menu, but a sampler plate would be good there...
Our meal and road food came to just over $100 without the tip. That was 3 coconuts, 2 smoothies, sesame balls, 1 appetizer, 1 soup, 2 entrees, 2 desserts.
