Default Overcoming fear that holds you back

    hi All,

I thought I'd start this thread because Angie (AngelandaRose) had a great post on one of the other threads about how she's overcome all fear. Angie, how did you do that??

I am so tired of my little fears holding me back (I don't mean fear about raw food, I mean the little worries about life in general that drain one's energy).

Sometimes I feel very empowered, but then I get sucked back into the old habits of worrying "what if this happens, what if that happens, blah blah blah."

I'd love to hear how others have overcome the things that hold them back.

Very, very wonderful idea Emma. I cant wait to hear responses to this, it should be quite enlightening.
I couldnt tell you I am fearless, but I can say I have let go of most of my fears and am still working on a few. (slugs for one! ack. ;) )

When I started studying the spiritual path that I am on a few years back, I realized that I really am Soul, not this body. And so in situations that came up, such as being up on stage, I would feel the physical, hormonal feeling of fear begin and immediately would remind myself that I am Soul and so are all the people looking at me and that we are all here to learn and grow. That helped me tremendously.
As time went by it went from being a mental belief to a knowing or being. Realizing I am Soul also released any fear of death.

I remember a few years ago I decided not to shave my legs or armpits. My husband has german blood and loves that and I thought I could try that for him.
I commited to one summer to see. We ended up going to a big hot springs with 4 friends one day and there I was in a bikini, hairy legs and armpits and petrified to come out of the change room. LOL
But I did, tons of people were there. That experience freed me so much, I cant even tell you. That was a huge step in starting to let go of one of my biggest fears, other people's views/judgement. I still work on that one once in a long while with people very close to me, so I would not consider myself fearless-yet!

Another thing I just remembered, is when I felt fear I would chant a name for God inside. It dispelled fear almost immediately. I even do that in my dreams.

    Awesome thread Emma !!!!!!!

Yes, I do the same thing.....

What if this that, Ugh when how and why????? So much time passes with this worry process (entails procrastination too) that then I accomplish none of what I want so bad. I'm training myself to do, do and do.

The fear I feel sends me in a journey of "chasing my tail" and I can literally hide from the world for days and months. I know that mine stems from self esteem---the fear that I am not good enough, beautiful enough or thin enough. My misguided perceptions/conception says "all or nothing."

Great thread topic to ponder tonite,

Default Depends on the kind of fear, I'd say

I'll simply add that I think there's a great deal of difference between fearing what others will think of us and what I would call fears that spark thoughtful consideration of such questions as, "Is eating raw truly the healthiest diet for me?"

It is most unwise, it seems to me, to choose to ignore completely what information is available and to refuse to look into reports of developments made by research on any issue of concern. This philosophy obviously arises from my background as a debate coach as well as out of a belief that more information on as many viewpoints as I can find provides a better basis for decision-making than no information.

I use to fret and worry and fear all kinds of things, my anxiety was sky high all the time. Then I started studying deliberate creation/the art of allowing that Abraham-Hicks teaches(www.abraham-hicks.com). I realize I create my own reality. When I took on that 'belief' I slowly started letting go of little fears that no longer served me. I realized I was creating the fear myself. I realized by keeping my focus on fear and worry I was focusing on what I don't want. What a way to live. :-( I wanted to be FREE and I've also come to 'believe' that ALL IS WELL. Well-Being is so much bigger than we even know. You'd never know that by what the TV News tells you because where is there focus? On all the *crap* in the world, on all the negative in the world, on all the FEAR in the world. When you truly start to feel in your bones that ALL IS WELL and that WELL BEING is the order of the day then you really can't hold on to fears because they don't serve you any longer.

Nothing outside of myself can hurt me. I don't fear death because there is not death really, just the changing of form from physical to non-physical. I think once you can truly overcome the fear of death only then can you release ALL FEARS!

When someone goes into a research project to 'prove' something they will ALWAYS Prove what they are looking at, even if it's on opposite sides of the argument. That is just Law of Attraction (that which is like unto itself is drawn). When you focus intent to prove a certain belief you will ALWAYS find evidence of that belief. So both sides of the coin are always true, OR both sides of the coin are always false.

So knowing this for myself I don't rely on what others choose to believe, no matter what credentials they might have in their pocket. Knowing this I know there are THREE sides to every story. There is each side of the argument and then MY STORY! What I choose to believe for myself.

    Angie

No! Most emphatically, no! I disagree strongly that people who do research will "ALWAYS prove what they are looking at." If this were the case, then why would Gabriel Cousens be saying that recent studies he's been examining have led him to investigate further the possibility that B-12 deficiency cannot be prevented by plant sources alone? He's long been one of the most staunch advocates of supplementing vegan and vegan raw food diets with plant superfoods in order to prevent deficiencies associated with a lack of meat and dairy in people's diets.

In my own life, I have more than once set out to prove something I strongly believed to be true and been forced to change my mind when I found sufficient evidence to prove my belief wrong. An honest person will admit it when this happens, not barrel ahead and publish flawed results or invalid conclusions based upon deliberately overlooking contradictory evidence.

When you focus intent to prove a certain belief you will ALWAYS find evidence of that belief. So both sides of the coin are always true, OR both sides of the coin are always false.
No, again. You will do this only if determined to prove your belief no matter what evidence to the contrary you may uncover in the process. In fact, the scientific method is all about requiring that one's conclusions be capable of being verified by other researchers testing the evidence and whether or not it supports those conclusions before they are generally accepted as valid.

The ethical researcher periodically evaluates hir approach, examining to what extent s/he may be seeing only what s/he wishes to see, possibly even involving associates in order to help hir avoid unintentionally falling into the blindness that can result from wishing to prove hir hypothesis.

So, while anyone who prefers to may believe as Angie does, I cannot, as I believe it to be a potentially dangerous "head in the sand" approach.

I don't see it as head in the sand approach, I see it as releasing and choosing not to believe in fear driven opinions. I have made a deliberate choice to not live in fear, that is a waste of my time. I go with what feels good. If I start reading a fear based report and it starts to grip my heart I say WHOA!!... and then I CHOOSE to not read it, turn the channel, skip the post etc... I choose to deliberately create my reality. What you give your attention to will manifest in your life. Fear and negativity breeds fear and negativity.
Nothing is more important than that I feel good! I can see how that seems like 'head in the sand approach' to some but it is so FREEING to me.

And of course this is my humble opinions from my perspective in this time space reality! :)

Angie, thank you for the link. I always find it fascinating to learn about others belief systems. I stopped watching television years ago for that same reason, how much fear you take in subconsiously-and consciously. It was an interesting and freeing revelation the day I realized fear was my choice.
I noticed too that once the fear of "death" was let go of, most fears didnt serve me anymore.

I guess it all comes down to being the cause, or the effect.

    Blessings~

This is the root of ALL fear,... the fear of death. Once a person can release the fear of death only then can they truely LIVE! ;)

    Default I totally agree here.

What I have found for myself and in working with others is what you say ~ what one focuses on, one receives.

Reading all the articles and books that folk write about this lifestyle can be very confusing. I always say, confusion leads to clarity and it is clear to me that, based on my experiences and watching folk I know living a raw food lifestyle, "at this time!" this is the way to go for me!

I quit watching t.v. many years ago because I do not wish to be inundated with commercials and bad news. I do not go to bed with that as food for sleep. I do not get up in the a.m. and listen or read the bad news for break-fast. What a way to start the day! I'd prefer to be meditating, doing consious movement, out with Bo for a walk, reading each other's 10+ daily appreciations ~ then, enjoying a green smoothie together. Now THAT is a joyous way to live!

In light, love and laughter ~

hi Sweet G, thank you so much for sharing those stories with me. I was thinking of what you said about Soul today, because I am trying to conquer my fear of driving on highways and busy roads. This fear is something that developed over the last several years and can be very limiting, and I didn't always have it. Like you, I also sometimes chant a name for God to myself, my favorite being "Emmanuel" which means "God with us."

Hi Miss Linda, it was helpful to me to know that I am not alone in worrying about "what if this happens" etc. Sometimes I don't leave the house for days either because I kind of just get in a slump, and since I work at home and don't have to go out, it's easier for me to "slump." Oh, and your "fear of fearing" gave me a chuckle.

hi Dot, thanks for sharing your thoughts, too.

hi Angie, Wow, if you could go from someone who had a sky high level of anxiety to someone who is so at peace, that is very encouraging for me that I can, too. Thanks for sharing that link. I like to recite to myself, "All will be well, and all will be well, all manner of thing will be well" (prayer of Julian of Norwich, Christian mystic), somehow this always makes me feel calm, perhaps it has something to do with the fact that it requires repeating the phrase three times. My other favorite is from the Book Of Luke "Nothing shall by any means harm you." (I also love your "three sides to every story." I will just keeping trying to choose that third option...my story!)

hi Revell, I love the way you start your day, what great ideas!

KNOW THAT YOU HAVE THE POWER!!!!!

I have come to a point of no worry or fear in my life. I have read about ten books by Chopra and Dr. Dyer, and more (Read Real Magic by Dr. Dyer!!!). I felt like telling you how I have gotten to this peaceful state. It is good stuff.

    1. Writing down what I want to accomplish, like for me “not thinking about things" and "not worrying or fearing". Writing keeps your subconscious focused on what otherwise it would forget. Without Meditation, you have about 60,000 random thoughts a day. Only those thoughts you make an effort to remember by writing or typing will stand out to your subconscious. This brings about change without anymore effort than writing your goals.

    2. Meditating - It teaches your ego to shut up and gives you access to the power of God. It is making conscious contact with God, which is also ourselves.

    3. Understanding that God is inside us means we have this REAL POWER to change our life any way we want. When we use this power of God we are living with God's strength as a reality. It is hard to let go of our ego, but just do it. Take that large miraculous step! It is great. Call it God, inner strength, intent, will power, pure potentiality, whatever...the power is real so just make it happen.

    4. Saying this every day when I feel like it. "Every thought I have is a choice between fear and a miracle. I relinquish all fear and choose the miracle."

    5. Knowing that the only reality is "now". There is no yesterday or tomorrow and will never be. There is only right now. Time is really an illusion because there can never be anything but now. So make the most of it. God provides in abundance and will continue to do so as long as you do not take this precious moment for granted. God is in the now, and not being aware of "now" means not being aware of God. When you are aware of the now, you are aware of God and are rewarded for aligning yourself with God. I know this seems heavy, but it just means that God is in the moment, and when you start to worry and what not, you move away from God and this is bad...producing stress, physical dis-ease, and everything else.

What is most enlightening is to KNOW now that I do have this inner real power. Just imagine for a moment and accept that it is possible to live the life you desire. You know it is a possible. People do it all the time. It is possible to live without OCD and depression, so that means tapping our inner strength, soul, God, intent (call it what you like) ...you can live without worry. It is possible, just make that step and do it. This step took me about two weeks to get past. Then it's pretty easy once you make a firm commitment to shift your thoughts and do NOT relinquish control back to your ego and thoughts. Knowing this power is available and possible has made all the difference for me. "There is one elementary truth - the moment one definitely commits oneself, the providence moves too".

    prov•i•dence P Pronunciation Key (pr v -d ns, -d ns )
    n. . The care, guardianship, and control exercised by a deity; divine direction: “Some sought the key to history in the working of divine providence” (William Ebenstein).

I basically asked myself, "Can I live without these problems?" The answer is of course, yes...it is possible. Therefore, since it is possible, I just need to make it happen by making that firm choice between fear and a miracle. ALWAYS choose the miracle and never hesitate to love life, and think about what makes you happy. TAKE action at the moment you choose a miracle and do something or think about something you really love. Soon you will have to choose less and less. This is where I am at.

Whew, I know that is a lot to think about and it's been tough for me, fighting with my ego and all. However, all this reading has brought me to one point. I know now I have this enormous power of God inside me to create whatever life I want. We are all God, and God is us...there is no separation...so it is our power as well.

I am reading these posts and suggestions with a lot of interest. I have only one major fear but it is inconvenient at times and people think I'm bonkers when I tell them. I am petrified, horrified, terrified of driving. I am nearly 38 and have never held a driver's license.

I've overcome panic attacks, extreme shyness, forced myself onto trolleys and trains to go to school to get my degrees, opened 2 businesses and left all my family and friends to move 1100 miles away with a complete stranger, but I cannot drive a car!

Sometimes I think, so what? Who cares if I don't drive? My husband takes me where I want to go, one of my ex's owned a cab company, but there have been times, naturally, that I wished I could just go myself somewhere. I'm sure there are other people today that don't drive, but we are in the minority. I've kind of resolved myself to the fact that I never will drive. I KNOW it bothers other people more than it bothers me, not that I ask them to drive, but just because they feel I MUST know how to do it, for my own sake. But if it's not bothering me all that much, why should I bother learning?
