Food Dehydrater question

Hello,

I can't afford Alissa's food dehydrater and small one is too big to bring to university.

I need something smaller and cheap but work well.

I want to have some dehydrated fruits for during studying and between classes.

I saw this website and wonder if it is all right...

Do it work well and safe?

I've never had one but I've heard people on this site have and it works well especially if you can't afford a more expensive one. It has a thermastat control which is important. Rawkinlocs on this site had one for 2 years before getting an excalibur. If you are starting off on raw it is an affortable one to go with.

It is noisy though and here is a clip of the sound of it.

Speaking of, do we know the approximate cost of Alissa's dehydrator? I was all ready to get the Excalibur 9-tray when I read about Alissa's. So I've been holding off, but, depending on price, I may go ahead with the Excalibur.

Wow that is noisey!!

I was thinking of getting that one also for a first dehyrator. Does the excaliber make as much noise??

there are many deaf people at Gallaudet university than hearing people.

my roommate is totally deaf same as i am, so no worries.

That is so neat you go to Gallaudet. I took sign language lessons for a few years and wanted to be a Sign Language Interpreter as well but it didn't quite work out. Also I worked at a deaf camp in Ontario when I was younger.

I've heard Gallaudet University is great. Now I'm a teacher and often think of getting back into sign so I can teach at a deaf school one day.

On Revell's radio show Alissa said her dehydrator would be under $300.00 but I too am dying for one and am thinking of getting the excalibur instead. The thing is I live in the west coast of Canada and shipping from Miane will be expensive for me and it will be all aluminium so I'm wondering what the weight will be.

Also I sent that clip of the Nestco one to someone else on another group who has an Excalibur and she said it isn't that noisy. Also e-mailed Excalibur and they said it isn't as noisy as a house fan. I wish I could hear one so I would know for sure the volume.

Also I'm using a cheap Ronco that is just horrible but I have nothing else. To top it off Excalbur has this amazing deal until the end of today. I've e-mailed the company and they said they will probably carry the deal through the month of July and maybe August. So if I don't get one today I hope that is the case.

In the end I'd prefer an aluminum one but the wait is killing me. Alissa's does sound amazing though. She talks briefly about it on Radio Show 11.

As long as there is a way to control the temp. that's the main thing.

I have the little 4 tray excaliber. The trays are smaller, they are about 12"x12". It's sounds about like the hum of a running dishwasher (for those of you that are hearing) I paid about $120 for it. I have a small condo with a small kitchen so it's perfect for me.

One of my very first boyfriends was a deaf boy. Ahhh the fun we had. I still remember a lot of what he taught me but it's become harder for me to read since I don't see it much. His name was Danny AAwweeeeee what a cutey he was. Thanks for the memory...double

I just got the 9 drawer from Excaliber its not noticable. Of course there is some noise but I think water running form the tap make 100 times more noise that it does.

Thanks, Spiralgirl. My kitchen is small without much counterspace, so I actually have my current dehydrator in the basement, so the noise wouldn't be an issue. I thought it would be a hassle carrying trays up and down, but it's really not bad.

I current have a L'Equip, and it's great for crackers, chips, or anything flat like that. But it just has stackable trays and you can't do anything to make more room at the top. So I'm limited from making things like bread loaves, putting dishes in, stuff like that. Even Alissa's rye bagles came out pretty flat. lol.
