Default Help for my son's cough

My 13-year old son has been under for the past several days. Now, he only has left a nagging cough. We DEFINITELY don't want to suppress the cough, but need to make it more productive. He's coughing and wanting to just cough up the phlegm, but it's not coming up.

He's been doing EXTREMELY well with eating lightly, drinking plenty of water and fresh juices (mainly an orange-lemon blend) and even CRAVED a SALAD today and ate one!

But the poor thing is miserable and I feel so badly for him.

I have some essential oils here and one of them is Eucalyptis (sp?). I mixed that with some jojoba oil and rubbed it on his chest last night (kind of a "Vicks Vap-O-Rub" kinda thing). Not sure if it did anything for him or not...any suggestions of NON-SUPPRESSING things we can do or use to help him get over this? Oh, and we've also given him some detox tea, but he didn't even drink half of it as tea isn't one of his favorite things.

    Thanks.

    Default cough

    Oh Cherie !

I've ending my battle with the flu (is this what your son has?) I was coughing to "hack it up" and the only thing that worked for that I will pass on to you, was cayenne. I made it in a warm tea. Not only did it help clear my sinuses but I HACKED some dark yellow stuff I don't know how well your son would handle the spiciness or taste but maybe as a soup style or tea with honey. Actually I found ginger and cayenne to be a great duo.

I'd even suggest gargling twice a day with sea salt or apple cider vinegar to rid any bacteria irritating his glands.

Tell your "little boo" he will be okay ;)

    Hey Linda!

Thanks for the tip...I actually thought about cayenne earlier today because upon reading Stanley Burrough's Master Cleanse, he mentioned cayenne to break up any mucous. So you have confirmed something I already kinda felt, but wasn't exactly sure on!

Sorry to hear you were down with the flu...I believe that is what is ailing him. No runny nose, sniffles, the "usual" cold symptoms; but he's had the cough, slight fever, restlessness.

I'm going to make him some kind of tea or warm lemon water with cayenne tomorrow.

Thanks again (btw, did you get my PM?)

    Cherie,

Same here--no runny nose with me either. In case he has no appetite, black strap molasses (unsulphured kind) was one thing I found helpful for nutrients and energy. Boy, after no food for over a week, that mnolasses sure tasted like a five course meal

Yes, I got your PM . Soryy, I've been so bad about repsonding to PM and emails lately--I'll PM you back tonite--and the other person (nameless) who pm'd a month ago Sorry peoples--I'm weird that way lately.

Thanks Linda. We have some blackstrap molasses here too...but I don't think he'll go for it. He hasn't had much of an appetite but he HAS been drinking juices that I make for him and as I mentioned, ate that salad yesterday. He also eats a little fruit here and there.

He seems to be doing better today. We also gave him some bowel cleansing herbs to get him "going" and help move some of that out of him that way.

    hi Cherie,

You might want to try this raw honey from Mitchell May, called "Healing Honey." It really helped my mom's cough almost immediately. She loves this honey, in fact, we use all his products. You can read about it on the following link:

    Thumbs up

Cherie, what cleansing herbs are you using? I still don't have an appetite for 3 weeks now and my digestive system doesn't have the bulk to remove the "waste" and I don't want to become toxic.

I'm too scared to try the salt flush.

    Hi Linda,

Yeah, I hear ya on that salt flush (BLECH!) But we had something, I think it was called Digestive Cleanse or something (sorry, can't remember) but it was the last of it that we gave him. But we also have KidLax by Renew and it's herbal colon cleansing herbs just for kids. I know Renew has other products for adults too, though.

Now, I don't know how you feel about enemas, but that's what my husband and I do for ourselves when feeling under the weather to aid elimination of the toxins. My husband also sometimes does those PB shakes and he mixed up a little of that with fresh squeezed orange juice for him last night.

I gave him orange/lemon juice with a little cayenne in it today. He is doing a lot better now. He says he's tired, so he's been resting a lot which is a good thing.

A little late in noticing this post Cherie. I hope you're son is feeling better.
I read recently in one of David Wolfe's writings that drinking nothing but cantelope juice works tremendously on colds and flus. My husband came down with something a couple weeks ago and so I made him cantelope juice--it worked wonders for him anyways.

I remember my naturopath giving me a handout once, but I cant find it now. It was the wet sock treatment. You wet some cotton socks and put them on right before bed and then cover them with wool socks. I imagine it acts like a wick maybe, not clear on that. But it is supposed to boost your immune system and is for colds/flus. If that strikes a note with you maybe you could look it up on the net.

    Hope he feels better soon!
    Warmly

Thank you SweetGoddess! I'd LOVE to have given him canteloupe juice, but that would be like trying to give kids castor oil as he hates canteloupe!
