Dough, that was a cool trailer on YouTube. It is so obvious, so logical, that raw is the best way to live, but people don't want to hear it. Well, so what... I'm happy and healthy and 57. :)

Doug . . . thank you so much for the youtube on RAW. The past week has been difficult for me to know what I want to do . . . stay RAW or not. At my age why take a chance on something so drastic, etc, etc., etc.! The final statement "Don't let anybody tell you are too old . . . " I really needed to hear that.

Thank you so much Doug for all that you do for all of us! Please keep us together.

    Default 60 here

I turned 60 in Feb. Then had a massive stroke in March and spent the next 2 1/2 months in the hospitals in Anchorage after being medivaced there. I was just begginning to seriously look into the raw diet when I had the stroke. My husband is doing all the cooking now and we haven't gone 100% raw yet. Once I am able to do the meals again they will be raw.

I am really enjoying this site and come here every day. For many years I followed the blood type diet and was even one of their primary bloggers but, especially after having the stroke, I decided a major change had to be made. So that how I came to be here.

    Arrow Anyone Doing Sprouts

I hear people on here talking about eating alot of Fruits. But are any of you eating sprouts? They are like 35% More powerful then Veggies. You can grow them in your kitchen. Plus there are many kinds you can grow. It only takes like 5 days to make a quart size jar too. and you can make as much as you need too. These are the real foods that have the power to Heal. Now here we are all over 50 plus So we need things like this. I know the first half of my life I was tought how to eat all the wrong things. We all got lied too. Starting way back when in school, with the four food groups posters in the class rooms Guess who made them? It is right on the bottom of the poster in small print. Brought to you by the meat and Dairy Counsil. It was to get us to think me need Milk and meat to keep us healthy. Plus the poster was in every classroom in the usa. It came out in 1956. It's a shame that the government would let a big lye like that be kept in the school system. It is still there too. Just go to any school and see what they are feeding the kids. So now wonder people are getting so fat and so sick. We are the ones that have to start spreading the word. One by one we are growing. We have the power to change things too. When there are enough of us the food people will make sure we get what we need too. It is already starting to happen too. We support our local growers at the farmers markets and get good Organic healthy fruits and veggies. The foods that give us what we need and make us healthy and feel so good too. So please people keep posting on here and others will join us too. Don't let this Thread Dye. There are so many more people over 50 now days then Under. I hope to read your post real soon too thanks for being here Doug in Calif...100% Raw and loving how it makes me feel... :)

Have been thinking about sprouts for salads. Just need to learn what equipment, etc., I need. I want to do that as soon as I am back on my feet. Thanks for mentioning sprouting.

You don't need any special equipment to sprout for basic seeds... just a bowl and some sprout seeds. That's it. Put the seed in the bowl, cover with pure water to soak. I leave mine overnight. Next day, dump in fine strainer, and give them a good rinse. Rinse out the bowl, and put the now rinsed seeds back into the bowl.
(don't add water). I cover mine with a towel because I have a curious cat.

Give the sprouts a "bath" and "shower" a couple times a day. Run some water into the bowl and swish the seeds around, then dump into a fine strainer and rinse under running water. Rinse out the bowl, and Put the rinsed seeds back into the bowl.

In a few days, you'll have sprouts ... that's it.

Some folks use jars with mesh "lids", and tip the jars at an angle upsidedown to drain and allow air circulation. Some folks use special small trays you can get from the sproutpeople.com. Some folks use seedbags and hang them from a hook. I've used all of those, and tend to find a plain bowl the easiest.

You can learn all you need to know at www.sproutpeople.com.
    Cheers
    Terry

Just turned 50 in September and raw 3 months. Never felt better. Lost about 15 lb. in 3 weeks and looked really gaunt, haven't gained much back but look a little healthier now thanks to green juices.

Talking Wheee! 30 Days & Countin'

As of Friday (Nov. 2nd) I completed 30 days of Raw eating! I've lost 11 lbs. and feel great! I could've lost more (I'm sure) but I wasn't working out For the next 30 days I'll be working out so it'll be interesting to see how much I lose. For the past few days I've been going to Hot Yoga classes!!! The temperature in the room is 106 degrees!! I figure should be able to melt away EVERYTHING in there! I'll also be working with my handweights and exercise ball.

I just LOVE this group so let me hear from y'all!;)
