I'm 56 and have been on again off again raw since February, 2007. Has anyone found the addition or elimination of any particular food helped them with menopause symptoms? I've had hot flashes off and on for about 2 years now. Any advice would be appreciated. ;)

Agreed. Don't believe what they say about soy, either. Soy CREATES hot flashes for me! Stay raw... no problem!

Thanks Revvell and Lafsalot - I know you're right. In my gut I know you're right, but my mind wants control - and it has been winning the battle so far!

I downloaded a couple of your radio shows Revvell. I was at the gym working out while you and Alissa were talking away about raw food. It was as if you were talking directly to me! I'm one of those people you were talking about who wants to complicate things. I believe I do that because then it gives me an excuse to say, "Oh well, tried that, didn't work!" I want to believe I can "find an easier softer way. ." but I can't. This whole process could be an adventure and a lot of fun, I've just been choosing to make it difficult.

It's time I get down to business, apply the principles I've learned to use successfully in other areas of my life, and just "go 100% raw."

I found that when I started using herbamere (the spicy salt stuff) that my flashes came back so I would say to stay away from it.
It may be that all salt would cause that for me but I do not use any so do not know

Yeah, wish I could give you some advice here but I haven't had any symtoms for a long time. Must be the mostly raw/vegan diet.

I read a book years ago (b/4 raw): Estrogen, the Natural Way, by Nina Shandler. She really promotes flax seed. Also soy.

    See if it helps.

The book was very informative, though very cooked too.

She has a receipe for Maple Nut Crunch that I could eat by the handfuls. If you to maple, you may want to try it. Or supstitute honey, etc.

Calls for: 1 cup flaxseed (ground)
    1/3 cup maple syurp
    1/4 cup walnuts, chopped

Mix well. Dehydrate (of course, she said bake in 300 degree oven for 10 minutes, stirring after 5 minutes).

Hey, there! I'm the oldest!! I just turned 66 and have been raw since Dec. 27th. 'Feel great! And my high blood pressure is starting to come down. I've been monitoring it, hoping to come off the medication Last week it was 118/60. This week, though, I seem to have an irregular heartbeat--missing about 4-5 beats in a minute, I figure. I talked to Craig sommers of The Raw Foods bible who was in town last night for a lecture. He suggested taking magnesium, the deficiency of which can cause irregular heartbeat. Does anyone have experience with this problem? (I s'pose I should start a thread with this question!)
