Any raw restaurants in midtown manhattan?
So I finally have a business trip planned to NYC in 2 weeks! I can't wait. I plan on hitting Pure Food and Wine on Friday night and Quintessence on Saturday for lunch or brunch. But until I have free time, I will be staying in midtown. My hotel, meetings and our office are all there. Are there any raw restaurants up that way? Or anyplace raw friendly that I should check out? Also, I probably won't get into the city until 10 on the day I fly in...what's open then? Thanks!

Thanks. I'm not sure that any of those are in midtown though? I'm going to be up in the 50s/Park Ave area. Too hard to go 25 blocks and back for lunch.

Per the 2007 Vegan Guide to NYC, there's a food cart at the corner of 46th St and Sixth Avenue called "Fruit Salads, Fruit Shakes". They write:
"One of NY's best rawfood restaurants and juice bars is really a food cart. Their salads and shakes are ambrosial ... Vo and Do An are from a Buddhist country ..." so no dairy despite the use of the work "shake".
Cash only, but salads and shakes are in the $3 - $6 range.
I'm raw only 4 months, and found Pure Food and Wine to be simply amazing. Also got to Caravan of Dreams. Live near Boston so it's a hike, but I'm always looking for an excuse :)

Pure Food and Wine...
I don't know of any raw restaurants in midtown; however there is a SPECTACULAR raw restaurant in the east village called Pure Food and Wine. Someone else mentioned it, but I cannot say enough good things. I eat here daily or pick up food to take home. It's an easy train or cab ride from midtown and they have a beautiful outdoor area. This is BY FAR this best raw restaurant in the city!

If you're looking for something quick to grab in midtown, there's Westerly market on 54th & 8th ave I think. It's a store but they have a raw food section near the back where they make fresh juices (green "lemonade" rocks!!!), along with raw vegan entres made fresh daily. They also have some raw deserts and stuff like raweos, raw crackers, larabars etc.
I personally really miss this place, since I used to go there during my lunch break at work.

Thanks for the new responses guys. Unfortunately I got home yesterday. For my midtown lunch I ended up hitting Chopt on 56th and Park. They had an all raw salad on the menu that did just fine until my dinner at Pure Food and Wine (you can also make your own). I also hit Quintessence and Bonobos the next day. I liked Quintessence the best. I'll write down your reccomendations for my next trip back since my office there is in midtown.

I'm so sorry I didn't catch this sooner!
Because there is an amazing RAW secret in Midtown called the Westerly. I think it's 55 and 8th ave. They have a full Raw deli (you can get raw pizzas, raw pies, lasagna, raw stirfrys, the works) AND they make coconut shakes! It's the most amazing thing EVER. You grab two young thai coconuts from the grocery and they chop them open, drain the water, scoop out the meat and blend it all together. Then for the final coup de grace they serve them in sealed plastic bottles so you can stockpile them in your fridge if you so choose. Had I caught this line before I would have taken you there myself. The Westerly is a midtown savior.

Thank you Ingenue! I'm sure I'll be back again for work and I most definately will be checking this place out! :)
