    Question Is Millet Raw?

Just wondering if anyone here knows if millet is/can be raw. I just bought some whole grain millet which I am pretty sure has not been processed in any way. I tried sprouting it but got impatient after a day or two and made some dehydrated bread with it instead. Has anyone else here ever used whole raw (if it is) millet? TIA!

    Analeah,
According to my Ann Wigmore book, millet can be sprouted. She says to use the unhulled type, soak for 8 hours,in about 2 to 3 days the roots should be 1/4th inch and ready to harvest.

Hmm, okay cool thanks kirk! How do you know if it is the hulled or unhulled kind? Do you think if it is the hulled kind it is no longer raw or able to be sprouted?

I'm not really sure what the hulled and unhulled look like and I assume that some seeds have to go through dehulling processes that hinder their ability to sprout. Thats probably why Wigmore recommended the unhulled seeds.

I can't remember if the millet I had was hulled or dehulled, but it did sprout for me when I first attempted sprouting grains before. The next time I go to wholefoods, I'll check to see if it is hulled or not...not sure if the package even said so or not.

Ok cool it would be nice to know when ya find out if they were hulled or not. I have a feeling they will sprout either way but then again maybe like kirk said it's possible they may have been heat processed in some way to get the hulls off. It's definately a good sign that it is raw if it sprouts though lol. I am pretty sure mine were just beginning to sprout before I used them but maybe it was just my imagination and I was hoping they were...
