Juicer suggestions?
I'm thinking of getting a new juicer. I have a cheap old one from Meijers.....I have to cut things up to nothing to fit it the chute. I see Alissa has one called Breville Juice fountain......any thoughts? I can't spend a ton of money. My husband still hasn't gotten over the price of the Vitamix!!!!!

Hi Kristi,
I am also thinking of getting the Breville. I love that you can put whole fruit into it. Kirk also has one and said that he likes it. I believe I am going to get one soon. The cheapest I found was $90. I love my juicer but having to cut stuff up beforehand is a real deteriant from juicing. I guess I am lazy!

I have a juiceman and a champion - I use the juiceman daily because it is lightweight and easy for me to manuever. I use the champion for fruit ice cream and sometimes juicing when my husbnd goes through his moment, I bought that juicer cause YOU wanted it.
I have also seen the Jack LaLane in action, very powerful and efficient. Juiceman and Jack LaLane are less than $200 - like 159 or so. Champion is 239 or so - I think.
Michelle at www.fromsadtoraw.com has a comparrison of two juicers on her website that you may want to use as part of your research.

Hi Sweet Lips
Do you have to cut the fruit up very small in order to juice in your juicers?

Hi Kristi & Rawjojo,
Just thought I'd let you know that the main reason I desided to get the Breville was the size of the chute ( it measures 3 inches across ). I like that feature cause I'm a little on the lazy side too.

I love my Jack LaLanne juicer. I also have a Champion, but hardly use it at all.

Kristi,
Just to chime in a little late here, I love my Jack LaLane. I have the Juiceman, Vita-mix and Champion too, but the JLL is getting the most use lately. Clean up is much better and no having to cut up all those fruits/veggies as it has a large shoot. If you have a Costco by you, they are the best price I've seen. Also, HSN has them for a good price. But, the infomercial is advertising a brand new model and I think you get some extra freebies with it. Watch for that!

How do you all feel about the idea/belief that most juicers "cook" the juice? I notice most people here are in favor of the Vitamix Blender and also Juicers that are centrifuge-based and other rapid juicers, so I am curious.

How do they do that???????
-
The single gear, masticating juice extractors and similar machines turn at about a slow 80 RPM's to ensure that nothing is lost through heated elements in your juice. Most juciers "heat" and "cook" the juice or at the very least do not effectively extract the live enzymes from the vegetables and fruits.
Centrifugal-type juicers are not recommended in Raw diets. It is possible to "boil" juice in a Vitamix. That is not efficient or Raw. Most people like these Juicers and Blenders 'cause they are fast and easier to clean than the truly Raw ones, which are sloooow and produce a Raw, enzyme-rich product.

CC,
What do you recommend?????

CC,
It takes over 3 minutes to bring anything to a boil in my Vita-mix via the friction created by the blades, and with my juices, I usually do about a minute or less.
I've heard "experts" say that the centrifugal juicers reverse the polarity of foods. I've asked a few people I know who are science geeks, and none of them see how this is possible.
As far as science is concerned, it's possible to get two conflicting results from any experiment. And a lot of it is opinion. I take it all with a grain of sea salt and do what feels right. And both my Vita-Mix and centrifugal juicers help me a great deal in my quest for perfect health. So I ignore most of the negative stuff I hear about the tools and foods that help me stay raw.

(Don't shoot the messenger)
My point in sharing was and is, if something is heated to a certain degree, it is not really "Raw".
I do not share information to start controversy.
I do so because I would have LOVED the guidance of someone like me who has lived and studied subjects like Living and Raw Foods as a lifestyle for years, and because I am paid by clients to do so.
I share here because it's the right place to do so and some people appreciate my sharing.
Blessings!

I feel the Samson, Champion, Green Star and L'Equip Visor are the best buys for maximum Livefood Nutrition and Value.
The Samson 6 in 1 and L'Equip Visor are the best ones for versatility and Nutrition and price, as the one machine does nearly everything a Raw Fooder needs, from nutbutters to wheatgrass.
