    Default Hello from Texas!

I've gone high raw, happily, easily, since March 11 and feel great. Other than a bizarre boil-like breakout on my forehead, I can't believe the fabulous results in such a short time. My skin looks better than it has in years, I rest better. I also feel more *even.* Until these last weeks I would have said it was normal for me to fluctuate between frenetic, crazy energy spurts and exhaustion. Now, I mostly feel gently, evenly energized, except for a slight mid-afternoon slump. Perhaps even that will go away as become raw, rawer, rawest. :)

Oh, and BTW, I have Graves disease and severe hypothyroidism, controlled with meds. I'm also 40-50 pounds overweight.

    Thanks for reading!

    Asil,
Where in TX? Austin's Whole Foods on Lamar has a raw, living food bar. My daughter lives in Arlington with our first grandbaby a month old so I plan on being near that area at least 1-2x year. She's close to Dallas. Just got back.

Sweetgoddess -- thx for the welcome! I've been reading your posts with great interest :)

VV and Carol -- I'm in the Austin area. I lived just blocks from that Whole Foods location for 6 years. Too bad I'm an hour away now. I did stop by just yesterday, though. Other, more progressive areas may have better stuff, but this is pretty amazing for us. I was able to get some raw "fast foods" -- raw almond butter, tahini, pickles, slaw, a few emergency bars. I had a shot of green juice while I was there. Give me a shout if you come my way :).

    Hey, more Texans! very nice.

Fuzzball -- I think that's the first time anyone's ever called me problem free. But I am easing into this raw thing pretty easily. But then again, I'm not trying to be 100% -- just to steadily cruise upward, toward a more and more raw diet every day. Even that has given me tremendous benefits so far.

All you guys near Austin: I understand there are 2 raw events that happen periodically. There's a guy on meetup.com who organizes a monthly lunch at Mother's cafe. I'm not sure with how much success. And then there's a couple who do a monthly thing they call "Raw Feast" in South Austin. I got an uneasy feeling that this might be mostly a sales pitch for their products but maybe I read them wrong. Anyone know anything about either of these two events?

Wow Asil, I just asked you about happenings in another post! We must be riding the same wavelength!

Would love to get together with others in the area to trade recipes, etc.

Whoo hoo, another Austinite! So Fightyyorke, what brought you to Austin? The raw food event (at Mother's Cafe on the 9th) I found is posted at meetup.com if you want to take a look. But again, I'm not sure if it's even active.

Don't you you guys in Austin think it's strange we don't have a bigger raw community? or maybe I'm just not finding it.

    Asil,

I went to the main Whole Foods market on 183 and 360 last night. I went to their public access announcements board and found nothing about Raw anywhere.

    I was quite surprised.

I didn't find anything at Central Market either.

    Hmmmmm.....

Default I think the new North Whole Foods in Austin will have a raw deli

I live in Austin too -- was told by someone there that the new Whole Foods at Research will be 20,000 s.q. LARGER than the new one between 5th and 6th on Lamar -- and that if the raw deli is a success at the current location it will probably be put in ALL the Whole Foods Markets (as they have room or whatever).

I loved the Avocado-Arugula Soup I had there so much that I've made it at home about 6 times in the last two weeks. ;)

What?? I asked a checker at the north Whole Foods if there were plans to re-vamp and she had not heard of any. whoo hooo!!! Bring it on. Now that I live in the wilds of Lake Travis, I have a LOOOONNNGG drive to the south WF.

Thanks for the info, Deradune. :)
