    Default Flax-Sprouting it???

I love flax seeds plain...but how can I sprout them? I can soak them and eat them surrounded by the goo and I like that too. I just love the taste of flax seeds. But I want to sprout them for optimal nutrition and such...how would I go about doing so?

    thank you!

On a chia pet might work, since they're so gooey.

    Hey Lunar*Fey -

I soak them for about 8 - 12 hours and then sprout them for a couple of days, rinsing the goo and letting them drain in a colander. I then blend them in the Vita-Mix with raisins. It makes a yummy pudding!

    Default hmm

Hmm the whole rinsing things is stopping me. I dont have a filter on my kitchen sink, so if I washed them after they soaked, I dont want to ruin them with tap water. Yet washing them with bottled water is a hassle... Hmm I have a filter on my shower... lol

    Thanks everyone!!

    Veganman,
thank you for the suggestion and recipe! :) So I should keep them in a strainer the entire sprouting time and just keep rinsing? soak 8-12 hours (I thought it was five for some reason for flax?) and then how long should I generally sprout it for? I mean they actually sprout even in the goo?
    thank you so much!

    Hi Lunar -

yes, keep them in the strainer the entire time. They will continue to strain out the goo in between rinses. I soak all nuts and seeds overnight. I haven't had a problem yet. I might start experimenting with shorter sprouting periods. Sprout for a couple of days - you will begin seeing little tails. Yes, even in the goo.:)

    Veganman,
just wanted to say thanks and you're the best! I started eating the flax whole and didn't feel like I could chew it well enough in the "goo" and I figured the blender wouldn't blend it. But then I remembered your pudding idea. I made a savory "pudding" and it was absolutely delicious! I got my omegas for sure last night (I used about 2/3 of a cup dry seed before soaking and ate it all)

    thanks!!

    Glad you liked it....

What did you add to them?

    Veganman,
you're probably thinking I am wayy over-enthusiastic...heh I just really like flax I guess.
Um to tell you the truth I didn't add anything...so I probably should have just said that instead of "savory"..but yes I just blended them up plain and it was really good. I liked the texture and the taste :)
Without you I wouldn't have thought it would work to blend them, so thank you!
