Some sprouting tips
Hey guys, I have had NO luck with sprouting until now, when I have tried a tip I got from a really nice guy at a raw food event....
Here's the deal:
I used a bowl, then put a colander/strainer with many small holes on top of that (where the beans are), then a "splash protector" on the very top (it's sort of like a metal screen, with teeny, tiny holes). I soaked them overnight.
Next morning, just took the colander out of the water, dumped that water, and I used the spray nozzle in the sink to spritz all of the beans. Then, I spread them up the colander a bit so they weren't not up on top of each other.
Repeated before bed and in the morning...
It's soooo much easier than what I was doing, and the stuff is sprouting much nicer than the other times I attempted to sprout (and then got made fun of by all the boys around here and had to throw the moldy stuff away).
Maybe you guys even already know all of these ideas, but they were news to me and I'm thrilled to have this work! I hope it helps someone out there!

I'm having spouting troubles
Thank you very much. I have had a hard time sprouting, I tried almonds with no luck. What were you sprouting? Did you use a nut/milk bag or sprouting bag?
And I have read the sprouting section in A's book and I am still a little confused.

Mung beans, garbanzo beans, and I honestly don't know what the others are.
No, no sprouting bag, just the bowls. It's so much simpler than bags and gadgets...

Sprouting Almonds
Fuzzy Peach,
Almonds will not get a long tail or a tail at all really on them...you just have to soak them for 48 hours and they are ready to use. You MIGHT see a small white little point at the end of them once they are done soaking...that is actually the most they would sprout...but if you don't see this no big deal...then just keep them in the soak water in the fridge for up to a week and change the water every second day.
EvaRB,
I just tried a similar method to sprout buckwheat and rye...it worked so, so well...I rinsed them both 3 times per day (I had soaked them overnight) and by day 2 both of them had sprouted...I was really nervous about sprouting and afraid to try it for fear of having to throw out rotten, unsprouted grain, but it worked super well.

Sprouting
I have been working on sprouting some garbanzos for 3 days to make raw hummus. Nothing has happened, and now they are starting to smell a little bit! Do I need to dump them and start over? Thanks so much. trena
