    Default MY new house

I am building a new house because I have no garden.
I am planning to install a rainwater collection system to collect the rain from the roof and store it to use to water my plants.
My problem is that my roof is going to be Zinc Cladding.
Does anyone know of any reason (toxin wise) why I should not do this. I still have the option to change the roof if I need to.

Sport I can not find any info on that roofing material as far as water collection is concerned.

We just got this house from the original owners & builders. They incorprated self sufficient off the grid types things to this farm. The rain water is collected in large cistern, I filter it w/ several screens this is not my drinking water. The picture is of one of the collection sites.

sorry i couldnnt just quote the article but its in pdf... i think down around page 3 might give you some answers ...

honestly though its written through a government agent so who knows what the real truth is .. it doesnt sound like zinc though is a major toxin .. i suppose you could always purify the water after the collection

    hope this helps\

    Thanks for that.
I have saved it and will read it tomorrow. Right now it is nearly bed time and the brain would not take it in.

Are you drinking this water or what is the intent for collecting it?
There would be two different considerations. If you are not drinking, then no need to filter anything more than sediment.

We are in the process of building our house also;) .We are planning our rainwater recovery design- but, not to use for our consumption. My husband is certifed as a LEEDS accredited Professional Engineer through the US Green Building Council if you need any advice. Please feel free to email me at faithfullyfit4u@yahoo.com

    Have a GREAT day!

    Thanks
No we are not planning on drinking it but I am planning on growing as much of my food as possible and I was worried that if the water was picking up zinc on such a regular basis that the plants would pick it up and I would get too much to the detriment of other things. I do believe in balance.
It seems as if my worries are unfounded.
I am going to google the US Green Building Council to see what it is about. Sounds interesting.
