    Default Question for JUICERS

I just started juicing this past monday. About 12-16oz of juice a day

Here's what I had on Monday:

    Beets
    Carrots
    Celery
    Parsely

    Tuesday:
    Beet
    Carrot
    Cucumber
    Apple

now i am finding after 2 days of juicing, i am CRAVING it even more.

When I went to go to the bathroom my urine was slightly reddish tinted and this morning I had a bowel movement and it was PURPLE!!!
I think there was beet juice that caused this and looked like purple fluid as well.

Is this normal? or is my body not absorbing all the nutrients?
I know carrot juice has done the same thing. but i know juicing can have some great benefits in detoxing as well.

Beets are known to change the color of... stuff. Actually, depending on what you eat, you *stuff* will be different colors LOL... I believe it is normal.

It is said that if beets stain your urine, then your stomach acid is weak. Once it normalizes/strengthens on raw, you should no longer get red urine.

not sure i agree with this , but if you have a viable source to this i'd be interested in reading up on it... since i am currently rebuilding my adrenals as well.

I have the same experience. However I read in Victoria Boutenko's Greens for Life that once you heal your digestion you will absorb more and that will not happen. She uses that as part of her big green smoothie experiment - sort of like a before and then after a month of drinking a big container of green smoothies everyday. Sort of scary to see. LOL!

    OMG, this frickin funny. LMBFAO

it is suggested that beet juice be kept to 2 oz a day if at all. 1 oz per sitting

I drank the juice of 1 beet yesterday for the first time. Can I just say, if I didn't remember that Burgandy colored movements and red-tinged urine was a side effect, I would have had a huge hissy. (I did have a small one in fact)

    Tweety,

Sorry, no, I don't have a source, its just something that is often talked about on other forums, and it seems to be the general consensus.

I also found this snippet from a quick Google search:
'If adding healthful beets to your diet puts you in the pink, don’t be concerned. It is perfectly normal, and in no way harmful to have pink urine or stools after eating beets. In fact, it’s a great way to tell how efficient your digestion is' (from: http://www.alive.com/1996a5a2.php?su...read_cramb=793)

Also, you said that you thought you would have stomach pains if your acid was weak - well I have very weak stomach acid, I really don't digest anything well at all, not even smoothies, and I have no pain whatsoever. So I don't think being pain-free necessarily rules that explanation out.
