Anyone have any really good cracker recipes?
Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone out there has some good flax cracker or any kind of cracker recipe or a recipe for veggie burgers or something else similar. I just got my dehydrator today and want to make something yummy! Thanks!
Do you have Alissa's book? Banana flax crackers are so easy and delicious.....my non-raw daughter begs for them!!!!
No but I sure wish I did lol. I can't really afford to spend more than $50 one one book right now. If I could find somewhere in Europe to buy the book I would definately do it. I checked out the fresh network but they are selling the book for about sixty dollars not including shipping here so it would be even more expensive lol. The banana flax crackers sound wonderful though I will try and make some sometime in the next few days. Do you soak the flax seeds before dehydrating them or does the dehydration cancel it out?
Spicy-Savory Flax-Sunseed Crackers
This recipe is brought to YOU, Gentle Reader, Courtesy of Moi, The Kitchen Witch...a preview from my Recipe Book, soon to be out and available... :)
1/2 C. Cilantro (Corriander), washed and set aside
1 Red Onion, peeled and chopped
2 C. Flaxseeds, soaked for 4 hours in 1 C. water and 1/3 C. Lemon Juice
1 Jalapeno or other Chili Pepper, seeded if you are timid with Spice...
1 tsp. Garlic Powder
1 tsp. Umeboshi Paste or Celtic Sea Salt
2 C. Sunflower Seeds, soaked 6 hours and rinsed
Process Sunflower Seeds, Cilantro, Jalapeno (or other Pepper) and Onion in a food processor using the "S" blade. Add Flax Seeds, Garlic Powder, Umeboshi or Celtic Sea Salt and mix well. Spread about 1 cup of the mixture to about 1/4" thickness on a dehydrator tray with a teflex sheet. Using your hands is easier than a spatula, I think...be sure to keep your hands wet to spread it out without sticking. Dehydrate at 100 degrees for 6 hours then turn the crackers over and remove the teflex sheet and score the crackers into desired shape and size with a knife. Continue dehydrating for 6 hours, or until the mixture is the texture/conistency that you desire. These crackers are a great thing to eat when you crave chips or other goodies! They are Spicy and delicious and taste great with a Seed Cheese or Avocado....:)

Awomse! Thanks so much CC, that looks like a really good recipe. I am craving something really spicy too so I think that is perfect. Do you think I could swap the onion for some fresh garlic? I love garlic but can't stand onion so I was thinking I could just switch them but I don't know if that would mess up the rest of the recipe? Also do you think the golden or the darker flax seeds are better to use?
Fresh Garlic works beautifully! Just omit the Red Onion and Garlic Powder and add in about 6-10 cloves of garilc. You may want to add about 2 T. of additional liquid as well to make up for the juiciness of the Red Onion, but then again, it works fine (and dehydrates more rapidly) if you don't add any more liquid. Have fun! :)

I take 2 cups of golden flax seed soaked in 2 cups water for 4 hours or overnight. Add that to 3 bananas and the juice of 1 1/2 oranges. Spread thin on teflex sheets and dehydrate. I dehydrate for about 24 hours and they are crisp. Just watch them and test taste for the desired crispness. I like my extra crispy! Top with nut butter!!!!! Yum!

I just wanted to also add that I made the banana-flax crackers last night and have been snacking on them this morning...they are SO good!
I don't know if my kids will like them or not...they're kinda picky and funny-acting about certain things and how they taste. But I'll let them try them and if they don't like them, more for me!!

My kids love the banana crackers.....I can hardly keep a batch around. It's about the only raw recipe I make that they eat. They put peanut butter on it.......the kids might surprise you.
Hey cool thanks for the suggestions everyone! Kristy those banana/orange flax crackers sound soooo good! I will definately have to give those a try too. Today I bought four extra trays for dehydrator and made lots of goodies to dehydrate. I tried out watermelon and flax, I have no idea how it will come out but I had a huge watermelon that needed to be used before it went bad. I also made oatmeal cookies which turned out incredibly good. And for the first time I just made some pizza crusts and some falafal patties too. Anyway thanks again for all the suggestions everyone, I can't wait to try them out!
Just thought of one more thing, is eating too much flax a bad thing? I love the taste and flavor and want to put it on and in everything but I don't know if too much will be bad....
