    Default newcomer, with question...

    Hello all,
I have never been part of a chat room before so forgive my naivete. I have been raw since 12/30/04. My husband has just recently begun the voyage. He is 90% raw and has recently had a problem, which I need some help on. Is anyone online today?

    Default stomach problems

Howdy all... I'm "the husband", 7 wks into the program and have been having stomach problems from the beginning: gnawing pain, focused on one spot below left of sternum. It's getting worse and is now interfering with sleep. This is NOT acid refulux, which has been chronic (I've got Barretts) but now has subsided.

I've had ulcers in the past (not the bacterial type) and this is the feeling. I've been able to stop meds for Barretts (Nexium, etc.) but tried Tums last nite and it reduced the pain for a while. In the past I've been able to associate the pain with various foods that aggravated it, but this seems non-specific, except that too much raw onion triggers it and acid reflux as well.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Does it seem like it could be another ulcer?
Would you be into making smoothies and juices for a while to see if that helps?
Might be an ulcer that is aggrivated by the raw foods. I had one and I started to juice in the moring. I made green cabbage, celery, and granny smith apple juice every morning. Seemed to sooth it.

    Hope that is helpful!

Also Paul Nisson wrote a book on how he cured himself from ulcers with raw foods - you might just look through that. Of course I don't know for sure if it IS an ulcer though -

    Hope you feel better!!!

This is from a fabulous book I just checked out of the library called Miracle Juices by Charmaine Yabsley and Amanda Cross.

    Well Healed

Both carrot and cabbage juices are renowned for having a healing effect on ulcers, which are caused by excess acid and the digestive enzyme pepsin, and are aggravated by stress, smoking and acidic food and drinks. They can be controlled by keeping your intake as alkaline as possible.

Makes 7 fl oz (200 ml)

    8oz (250 g) carrot
    8oz (250g) green cabbage
Juice the veggies and serve over ice.

    and heres another:

    Red Rocket

Carrot and apple contain pectin, tannic acid and malic acid, which regulate bowel movement and soothe intestinal walls. Cabbage detoxifies the stomach and upper colon and improves digestion.

    Makes 7 fl oz (200ml)

    6oz (175g) carrot
    8oz (250g) apple
    4oz (125g) red cabbage
Juice all ingredients including the apple core. Serve over ice.

My very best wishes..hope you feel better soon.
