    Default "Raw Power" book review

I was wondering if anyone has read the book Raw Power, and what they thought of the book. It is one of the only two books I could find about excersice and raw nutrition. I have not had the opportunity to read it yet and would like to know if it is worth reading or if it is buch of garbage. The author, Stephen Arlin, studied business and real estate in school and from what I know he is not registered as a nutritionist, doctor, or personal trainer. Therefore, this makes me question the credibility of his book.

If anyone has had the opportunity to read Raw Power, I would love to hear your oppinion.

    Default Raw Power

Hi Adam, Yes I've read his book it is very good, I don't believe we need to be registered to know what we are talking about. As he is partners with David Wolfe he knows how the body works and how to get strong the natural way.

I don't have it, but you may want to read the numerous reviews on amazon.com. they are not all so glowing. i was considering purchasing it for my husband, but the reviews made me decide otherwise. see for yourself though.

Harsh reviews on amazon! And *all* of the five star reviews were written anonymously ["a reader"], one of them posted by the author. Yech. Nope, I haven't read the book. I checked out the amazon reviews because I lift weights too and would love a raw resource.

After reading thosse reviews about the book I didn't want to buy it, but I did find it in the library, read it and
This guy is a joke. I could write a better book then this guy could. One thing that really pissed me of about him was that he had no scientific evidence to back anything up and he trashtalked education and science. I could write on and on about how bad the book was but then I think I'd write a book longer then his was
The only people I'd recomend this book to are those who want a good laugh

Adam, I agree. i wasnÂ’t going to write until i read your post. You may want to talk to Alissa as she seems to know what she is talking about, has been bodybuilding for over 20 years I think and has the looks to prove it!

Well, I'm going to have to agree. I glanced through his book (it was on the $1 rack at Half-Priced Books). Even at a dollar I didn't want it. So poorly written and reasoned! I just can't take a writer seriously who does that kind of negative trashtalking. Hope you find some other sources to help you.

Default Didn't care for it either...

I have to agree with you about Raw Power. I have been into fitness and bodybuilding for twenty+ years and was thrilled to see a book about bodybuilding and raw food---boy was I disappointed! I have to say that so far, other than Alissa's info, the best info I have found for raw athletes is Dr. Doug Graham. Not only is he in phenomenal shape but he is very lean and full of energy. His approach is a low-fat raw vegan diet consisting of about 80% carbs (tons of fruit ), 10% protein, and 10% fat. I have to admit that when I stick to eating this way I feel amazing, my bodyfat starts to drop, my workouts feel fantastic, and I have loads of energy. He recommends fruit for breakfast and lunch and then more fruit followed by a large salad for dinner. I'm sure you could have one of Alissa's yummy recipes too!!

You might also want to check out Robbie Hazeley's Raw Vegan Bodybuilding site if you haven't yet. Scroll down to the Articles for samples of a raw vegan bodybuilding diet. http://www.raw.veganbodybuilding.org/opening.htm

That's my two cents worth! Have a great day!

I got a copy from the library. It is ok. I think it needs to be rewritten in more detail and with more supporting literature. Also, less cross marketing of products would be nice.

Too bad about the Raw Power book, I was curious about it myself.

Now this other guy Hazeley still uses supplements, which obviously are not just raw food.

..........ON THE one hand, certain meals his diet is so light a mouse wouldnt be satisfied with it.........

......then he gorges on huge amounts of soy protein powder.!!!!!

    Default Hazeley...

I guess I didn't look that closely at everything....that's too bad that he doesn't stick with just raw food. It would be nice to see a fitness or bodybuilding person or even an elite athlete who eats 100% raw. Sometimes I get discouraged. Most of the athletes or bodybuilders that eat raw food end up using supplements like protein powders. I would really like to see a truly "raw" athlete. If you guys find any....please post. :) I would love to see it because that is my goal!

    Have an awesome day everyone!

I don't think I'm wrong when I say that Alissa IS a truly "raw" athlete. She weightlifts too as well as cardio (skating, etc..) Maybe she can give a little more insight on this subject as to what she eats, how often, how she does her workouts, etc. ....ooooh maybe in the "Need to know more" section!

I think Doug Graham and Alissa would both be good candidates
for advice on training, excercise and weightlifting raw.
Alissa looks awesome with excellant muscle development.
That speaks for itself in so many ways.
And Doug Graham- I have heard he has advised several professional &
olympic athletes. That's impressive to me too.

I havent read these books ,but I can say that there are a few good ballet books out there that have tons of info about becoming lean and muscular -I forgot the names of some of them (it has been a while since I danced and used them) but they tend to be good for ANY athletic people -I will go through my old stuff and give you the info -one is called "the dancers diet" -but it IS a bit extreme -the others were less extreme and relied more on exercise than limiting food.....they were the best ,Ill be searchin'!
