    Default Wheatgrass Tutorial?

I'm sure this is one of the most discussed topics, but I am looking to start sprouting wheatgrass for juicing. These are the things I would like to know before I spend $X.

Where's the best/cheapest place to buy seed - and what variety?
" " for soil - I would prefer something organic or at least w/o chemicals
Any other tips such as supplements for the soil
Is a masticating juicer much better or will my juiceman jr centrifugal blade juicer be fine?

    Thanks

    Talking Good Stuff Wheatgrass!

Hey Brian - here is the BEST sprouter (mho). I have two of these and love them:

I buy my red winter wheat (hard) from www.sproutpeople.com

I would suggest checking this book out from the library to learn all there is to know about wheatgrass. The Wheatgrass Book by Ann Wigmore.

    I use this hand-crank juicer.

    hope this helps!

:) I don't actually use any soil. I have these plastic containers that spinach comes in...I save them for sprouts. I was sprouting some wheat berries in one of those a couple weeks ago, and I left the house for a few days. When I came back, there was all kinds of grass! It just took off. I water and drain it once a day, but I have had thick, wonderful wheatgrass since. It gets indirect light on the kitchen counter, and it sits right next to my juicer.

    Aubrey,
Can you please describe spinach containers as ours are sold bulk or in bags? I still have that first batch of wheatberries giving me some grass, but very sporatic to cut. Thanks.

    Raw Mom,
Michael is fabulous. I went to his website and very informative. I see my first problem is I should have tons more seeds in my tray too. I gotta get over there and visit his site again.

I see he referenced CO. Did he mean CA on the website? I looked at his growing pictures. Wow, this is a man of experience and lots. I once was at a health expo in CA and Steve Meyerowitz ate with us at AuLac (what a great place to eat raw). Thanks again.

No wonder you know so much about wheatgrass--it runs in the family. Thanks for great link and sharing your brother with us. He's my brother now too but doesn't know it yet.

Veganforlife uses FreshLife that your brother recommends too. I'm not big on this yet for investing but maybe one day.

    Thanks again.

When you buy spinach, romaine, or spring greens in bulk at Costco, or they even have smaller versions at the grocery store...in the salad greens section, some come in bags and others come in these "flimsy" plastic containers...they are square, with a little "ribbing"...perfect for sprouting and growing things in! And great to reuse once you make your own greens for fridge storage! They have a lid on top, but its not a super tight fit or anything. Its definitely not tupperware. Oh! Its kind of like a to-go container a plastic one. Like what salads come in from fast food places or when you get a salad to go, or when you make a salad from a salad bar. That type of container, except bigger.
