    Default cucumber juice

I have had cucumber juice while out and about and I loved it!!!
This morning I made my own with 2 cucumbers and 1 apple. I peeled the cucumber first because it wasn't an organic one. I was drinking it on the way to work when I just couldn't drink it anymore. It was so bitter!!!!! Are all cucumbers bitter? Should I have used one of those long english cucumbers instead? Maybe added more apple?

Or did I juice a cucmber that was just going bad? I really want to make cucumber juice again but I just can't stomach what i drank today.

I only juice organic and with peels but it never comes out bitter........what kind of apple? Considering you juiced with apple,I'd imagine it should have come out sweeter. Have you tried buying one organic to compare?

Myself, I can definately taste the difference in organic vs non organic

    Default Cucumbers

Cucumbers are great for cleansing/detox. A green juice with cukes, sprouts and such is great for an AM drink. Mixing it with a fruit would be like taking your wheatgrass with orange juice. Best done alone. Mine have been bitter a couple of times. Just assumed the cuke was bad. I try to do organic only with cukes, but can't always get that.....At Hippocrates, you can get green drinks. Always cukes and some sprout.....
    Happy Green Day.... :)

Hmmm.....pondering.....I am assuming that perhaps the cuke was bad. It did smell pretty potent but looked fine. I guess I will try again.

I've grown cucumbers in my garden and in gardens growing up and sometimes cucumbers freshly picked can be bitter. Maybe you can taste a slice of the cucumber before juicing it?

my fiance and I tried cuke juice and we both thought it was bitter as well.. i was so suprised because I like cukes and think of them as being very fresh and refreshing (especially in cucumber water)...

This weekend I'm doing a juice fast so I"m going to have some again but I'll probably just make a shot sized glass of it and down it quickly without tasting it since it's supposed to be so good for you.

    Are all cucumbers bitter?
No, all cucumbers aren't bitter. If you garden, if you look in a good gardening catalog you will find "bitterfree" varieties. To add another element, there are also "burpless" varieties, that have less of the compounds that are difficult to digest and cause burping.

If you only have access to grocery store cukes, you could try for the long, English style cukes. They are more likely to be bitterfree than the shorter chubbier ones.

There is more bitter concentrated near the ends of the cuke, so if you cut off about 2" from the ends that will cut down on the bitter also.

If you really want bitterfree cukes, grow your own!

I love to put organic cucumber with peel in my juices. The skin contains silica which is great for skin.

Armenian cucumbers taste like a sweeter cucumber but I just read that they are actually a melon. However, around here they are sold as cucumbers.
