Fresh from the Emerald City....
It's just me with my very first online name from AOL in 1994, DotfromOz. I was living in southwest Kansas at the time, met this really interesting guy online who lived in Brooklyn, NY...well, shorter story, I decided after we'd known each other for a little over a year online & on-phone that my friend who warned he could be an ax-murderer might be right...but yanno, I don't know that I'd ever met an ax-murderer. Hey! The dude might be interesting!
So, I made a nearly last minute decision to pay out the wazoo to hop a plane back east to a gathering of some people from the chatroom where he and I hung out regularly...the REAL Pagan Tea House now long vanished...anyway, we met for real finally, and the chemistry went snick...snick...snick what with all those emotional pieces falling into place. Absolutely wonderful weekend!
Lots of menial circumstance-changing details later, he hopped a plane to Albuquerque, NM, I met him there and we went "uphill" to my very favorite-most city in the whole U.S., Santa Fe, for a totally magical week together preparatory to moving to Wichita, KS, where we've been for the last 8 years, so compatible we must be some kinda weird twins as he's 18 years my junior.
I was an on-again, off-again ovo-lacto veggie womyn (except for the occasional cheeseburger semi-magically transformed by the hovering hand and the chant, "You are a vegetable....etc.") while in grad school in Santa Fe about 20 years ago, and then went back to SAD stuff, cycling out and in every so often. I'd read about raw several different times, but what with relatives' pressuring me to "Just eat like regular people, not all this weird stuff," I've been pretty much all SAD in more ways than one until just recently.
I'm 55, and my blood pressure's creeping up there no matter what I do exercise-wise. Scary! Allopath's murmuring, "Gonna hafta start that med pretty quick..." I'm chanting my mantra, "Nooooo...noooooo...don't wanna...don't like the idea..."
And then I picked up a book on raw about 3 weeks ago...again, and the moment finally had arrived that it felt right.
I hung out for a week or so until I concluded That Other BIG Site was not a feel-good place for me, so here I am, hoping to get off a really mega-monster drug for a glandular problem...and to fend off the Cancer Monster that got my mom and her mom before that. And my very best friend of almost 25 years who died 2 days after Valentine's Day from complications of fighting both Stage 4 cancer and rheumatoid arthritis... [Being here is my tribute to you, Roberta, so that it will be a looooong time before we see each other in the afterlife, if you haven't popped back down to the Earthplane by then, cause I wanta live to chase 30-year-olds at going on a century! Yassirree!]
The C Monster will NOT get me! I ain't gonna go like that. So, that's why I'm here...and it feels just as good as eating raw has for me!
I'm sooo glad to be here and hope I can offer as much and more to people as I've already gotten from just hanging out, reading lots and posting a few things on my very first day onsite.

.........
I know what you mean ... I read about raw on the net and I just KNEW it was the right thing to do. Was dealing with cancer therapy at the time and not feeling especially good.
In my 8th 100% raw month now, and it continues to be wonderful. I feel better now that I've felt in Years!!!
Raw is wonderful - Glad you've joined this Board Dot. Tis a great place!
Cheers
Terry

Hi Dot
I am kathy from B-net.
Thanks for recommending this site.
I now need to get out and buy the raw book.
Do you live in NY now?
I live on long Island.
Good Luck to ya, with your attitude I am sure you will succeed.

Well, well...you just hustled yourself right on over here, Kathy. :) Great seeing you...again...in another context. ::::giggling::::
Welcome to one of the friendliest sites I've found for raw foodism! Hope your time on these boards will be as rewarding and helpful as mine has thus far.
No, we still live in Kansas. Hubby loves the relaxed, easygoing pace of life out here, although he gets a wee bit tired of the typical Kansas question, "New York? WHY would you want to move HERE?" People out here still tend to think of NY as some kind of be-all & end-all for some weird reason.
His family still lives in Brooklyn, so perhaps when we're back visiting sometime you and I can plot and plan to drag the relatives to one of the great raw restaurants I've been reading are in your area. That may be in about 2010 as little as we get back to the "right coast," but who knows?

Well I just married (1 month today), I am from Alabama.
So I have to look around for those raw restaurants.
It is a little intimidating but I am getting used to it. SLOWLY..

A hearty MM/BB right back atcha, Sweetgoddess!
Although I'm not Pagan myself, I do miss the fun we had in that chatroom. What a fabulous bunch of people! (mostly)...Sadly, nearly all dispersed to other services once AOL went to unlimited access and began promoting membership everywhere from zoos to Petri dishes, it seemed. :::sigh:::: I know. That sounds so elitist and arrogant, but it got too frustrating trying to communicate enjoyably with increasing numbers of new members who were unable to formulate a comprehensible English sentence. (Keeping in mind that I don't doubt that for them, *I* was just as incomprehensible! ;) )
Btw, thanks for adding the BeyondVeg link to the "Science" thread. I'm sure I'm going to want to investigate that site. Appreciate the help!
