    Default juicing beets

I have some recipes from a "juice person" who put out a "mini book" that a friend let me copy.
Anyway, some of the recipes say "1/4 beet with greens" or "1/8 of beet with greens." So when I buy beets, should the "greens" look nice and "firm" not wilty?? The ones I've seen at the produce at Walmart...look sad, the greens do...should they look this way??? I want to juice some....but not sure what they should look like when I buy them. Thanks for your help.

They "should" look nice and healthy like any other greens. That's the problem with purchasing from a store. By the time they've gotten there the refrigerated truck has sucked the life out of them and and then they sit on the shelf even for a day and they'll wilt. Even a day at the farmers' market will do that which is why I go early in the a.m., yet, many folk are not in an area where they can do that.

Try this ~ ask the manager when the produce comes in and see if it's at all possible to get there that day. See if there's a difference.

Thanks Revvell...I'll give that a try. I'm looking at "better" stores for better produce. I think Walmart gets their produce after everyone else has picked the good stuff! ;)

I haven't gotten produce from Walmart for a long time now because it always looks wilty and on the "going bad" side ... their price may be lower but I'm going for *quality* now baby!

Yes, girlsmiley, I find that on a weekly basis, I am buying less produce from there. Even the larger food chains in the area (Food Lion, Lowe's Food) carry MUCH better produce, maybe alittle more expensive, but the price is worth it....especially for greens, they seem to be the "wiltiest" at walmart.
