Weightlifting?
I've always been a bit of a weightlifter, naturally I am a large guy so I don't need to work out as much as many others to keep my strength up. I am going RAW now, and wanting to try to see how things go with doing more weightlifting.
This is more or less an experiment of sorts.
A bit of background though, it wasn't but a couple days that all this really came to me. I've become accustomed to eating nothing but meats, eggs, fish, etc... but this transition isn't too hard so far. Though I cannot stand vegetibles unelss it's in soup form, the fruits I have been eating have kept me happy enough, but I've been more hungry than usual as well. But as I have read it's just a phase. I haven't truely cut meat out all together, but the amount I am eating is miniscule compaired to what I used to eat only days ago.
For example, I used to eat maybe 6 eggs a day, but along with it through out the day I could eat several ounces of meat, breads, some fruits even. More food than many might imagine
But as for the question I have, I am curious about what type of fruits I should eat to maybe build muscle? I am NOT saying that vegans or fruitarians don't get protein BTW. I am inquiring as to how I should go about this "experiment"?
Hopefully this wasn't confusing to understand. But just to make sure I'll reiterate it a bit..... I am going to try weightlifting more often, and see what types of benefits I may get out of going all RAW during this. Since I am new to this, I am not totally sure what fruits I should be eating to get the right nutrition. I also have no money, in fact I have a job interview today and I doubt it will pay well enough for me to live off of for the next few months till I find a "real" job. So I cannot go buying a bunch of books or anything.
On a side note, I also am doing this fruitarian diet becuase it seems to be cheaper than the $100 I spent on foods before. Yesterday I spent $60 on fruits and it should be enough to last me a week. I doubt I'll spend that much next week either as my appetite gets better, and I learn smarter ways of shopping for the fruits I need.
TIA! ;)

Hi RWB and Welcome!
First, you should be aware that, if you are switching from a diet based on eggs and flesh food to one based on fruit, you will initially lose weight. You may experience loss of muscle mass as well. As far as building muscle, there are similarities on a fruitarian style diet and there are differences with relation to a meat/dairy based diet. Lets start with the similarities, since you seem to be an experienced person with regard to weight training, you understand that good form and increasing resistence help build muscle-mass. That won't change. The rate of increase will though, it will be much slower than it was before. You will lose body fat faster though and gain increased muscle definition.
The differences will be seen in not only the rate of muscle increase, as mentioned, but also the way the muscle looks. It wont be as bulky, but more streamlined. All fruit, veggies, nuts and seeds will be good for you. Those that have higher levels of fat or density (i.e. avocados, dried dates & figs, bananas) will aid in muscle mass. But that will only really take affect once the system is cleaned out from the dairy/flesh food that may have clogged it. If you eat those type of foods with a clogged system it will result in a gain of fat. I hope this helps you alittle.
Peace and blessings to you on your journey.Good success on your job search!
Todd

So I need to cut out all flesh foods altogether? I'm a bit overweight myself, so weightloss is welcomed. The other stuff is al great too, I don't mind the slower rate, and I like that they will become more streamlined as you put it. Toned is very good.
But to make sure I understand it, I must cut out all flesh foods to take full advantage of fatty tissue loss? About how long does it take for my system to be cleaned?
I will definitly cut out all the foods I don't need no matter how much I want them

Hi RWB-
I wanted to suggest a "supplement" that really is a super food rather in case you were worried about enough protein. I was thinking about supplementing with it myself when I start my weight lifting regimen.
There are two. ONe is spirulina and the other is chlorella. Both are, if I remember correctly, 60-70% protein. They are a complete protein with all the amino acids we need. And the protein is more easily absorbed because it is "plant" based (acutally these are algae) and it is broken into the amino acids. That is why it is so easily absorbable and more effective, where as meat from an animal is only 20% absorbed.
Here is great website that explains it all. www.chlorellafactor.com
Hope this helps. Let me know if I made sense or not

Speaking of supplements, I take "Centrum" which seems pretty harmless, I'm curious if it's considered ok to take? I know it's up to me in the end, but I wonder if I really need it? I actually chew the pills becuase of stories that just swallowing it won't digest right and most of it is still intact.
I'll lookup on the supplement you mentioned. I don't usually take supplements(other then a multivitamin), not since highschool anyways. Took all kinds of crazy crap back then.
Thanks

It's really not a supplement, but a food that you can actually eat. They are called super foods. But i call it a supplement because usually a person adds it to their diet on top of what they are already taking.

Sorry to confuse you RWB, no you don't HAVE to cut out all flesh foods. It was my assumption (wrong on my part) that since you were going raw that you were going to be vegan. I should realize not all raw foodists are though. As far as a system cleanse, it depends upon how long you have been eating your current diet, how old you are, body type...etc. A master cleanse of 10 days will be a great start. As far as flesh food, if you are going to include in going forward, you should make sure to eat plenty of raw fruit and vegetables and not eat complex carbs (bread, cooked potatoes, pasta) with the flesh. Seek to eat at least one meal of entirely raw fruit or veggies (nuts and seeds can be included of course). But to start off on a good note, a Master Cleanse will help greatly.
Peace.

I've been reading up on it, and it seems amazing. I am still researching it, but I haven't found anyone stating that these claims are false. Of course the price's I am seeing isn't something I am happy with. But I'll see about getting some soon and testing it out myself.

If you buy the powder form, it will cost less. the only trick is getting it down becuase I heard it is not the best tasting. iherb.com has a good value on the powder from the NOW foods brand. Let me know how you like it! I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet, but it is on my 'wish list'.

Is the NOW products a well known and trusted maker of these products?
-
I believe they are. I wrote them and asked how they process their product, etc. and they wrote me back with the details of the process. they add nothing else to their product. it's all 100%. If you go to their website nowfoods.com, i believe, and write them an email asking about it, they will tell you what they told me.

I'll trust you
I just ordered some, bought a pound of both Spirulina and Chlorella just now for less than $65. I'll try to keep a record of everything as I use it and write the details I find after my 30 day RAW thing I am doing. See how everything goes with all this :)

Thanks RWB ;) There is also a good before or after workout shake in the thread called 'bookmark this site' or something like that and just click on the link. I don't think all of those ingredients are necessary, not to mention costly, but it will give you an idea as to what to do with the powders you just ordered. Hope it goes well!
