Thread: Juice Question

  1. #1

    Default Juice Question

How long can I store fresh juices such as carrot, celery, cucumber, etc.? I would like to make a large batch since my juicer is a bit of a pain to clean.

    Thanks for your help!

Ideally fresh juiced juices are the most beneficial for you. How about juicing and freezing some of it and then use in smoothies?

    Default Thanks and another question...

I am thinking more in terms of juicing 1 or 2 day's worth of juice at once. Should I still freeze it, or will it be ok for 24 hours in the fridge? I don't mind freezing it but it seems that it might not thaw in time to drink.

I think that it's ok to store juice in the fridge for more like 12 hours. It also helps a great deal to keep it covered so that light doesn't get through as that will kill it faster. It should be kept in a glass container if possible, and then you can wrap the whole container in foil to keep it dark inside.

This all sort of depends on what you hope to get from the juices, too. If you drink them because they're sweet or different than just water and you just enjoy the taste, then you'll get what you want from the juice. If you're drinking it for nutrients, you're going to miss out on a lot of them by making large quanitites of juice and storing it so that you can drink it throughout the day. The nutrients are very fragile. There are nutrients in juice that die within 60 seconds of juicing the piece of fruit/vegetable. Many of them die very quickly, so making enough to store all day sort of defeats the purpose if you're juicing for nutritional benefit.

Is there any way you can get a new juicer? Or just start saving small amounts of money every week to get a new one? I was working as a waitress at the time that I was trying to buy my juicer, so I couldn't really afford to save large amounts of money for it. I used to get LOTS of change with my tips, so I just started saving it all in jars. After about 2-2 1/2 months, I had enough to buy the juicer and a few books. Would something like that work out for you?

Thanks for your advise. I think I am going to have to buy a new juicer. I have a L'Equip junior centrifugal juicer. I don't think it gets all of the juice out of my vegetables and like I said, it is very difficult to clean. I can't get the mesh clean without running it through the dishwasher.
