    Default Nut butters/tahini

    Just worndering wheather store bought nut butter & tanini are truly raw?
    There is one brand here where the label says "raw", do you think they still use heat when bottling it?

    I made my own almond and cashew butter in the vitamix a few times, it came out ok. Do you soak the nut before making nut butters? Can you make your own tahini?

    My rule of thumb? Unless it says RAW somewhere on the label it more then likely is not.When in doubt - call or e-mail the company. They will tell you. There has been a whole host of postings regarding this. Use the banana up top to search.
    Tahini, from what I've read can be made using a coffee grinder. Also, I would do a search on this as well.

    The brand I used to buy sais "raw" on the label, I think I still prefer to make my own, just to be safe. Do you have to soak the nuts when making nut butters?

    Smile raw

    As most things in life.. it's always wise to read the fine print. I've bought a few products that read RAW on the front.. but as I examined them they had said 96% raw.. or something to that sort.

    Hi VeryBerry -

    I believe that Artisana's butters are raw (very low heat during grinding).

    I make Tahini in my food processor or vitamix. I soak the sesame seeds (hulled) ahead of time and sprout for a couple of days.

    Best is to buy it in (private) shops where they made it themselves;
    it's fresher than bought in chain-shops
