Food combining
I am trying to do proper food combining, such as eating sweets and fats separetly. I find that some of the best recipes combine fats & sweets, smoothies, cookies, deserts. Is there a way to incorporated these in small amounts and still get some of the benefits of food combining.
Do carrots combine well with fats, even though they are sweet?
I was thinking may be to have a nut based smoothie or a desert with some greens. Would that be ok? Any other ideas?

You know what, for me, it is really important to combine my proteins and veggies properly, especially starchy veggies. I will say this though, I notice a difference with raw versus sad combining. I notice the upset to my digestive system isn't nearly as bad as it was with SAD combining. I have loosened up a little in terms of raw combining because as you said, many of the recipes have combos of everything - fats, sweets, starches, protein, etc. A healthier functioning digestive systems is one of things I am seeking so I believe that overall, food combining is essential. Even with juice combinations, I have always been careful not to combine veggies and fruits. I think a lot of has to do with how we are individually and uniquely wired (genetics) because I have friends who pay no attention to combining and eat all sorts of unique variations of raw/vegan food - they have healthy digestive systems (no problems with indigestion, constipation, and have a clean bill of health from their doctors)....
I guess you won't know until you try. What are you thinking about doing with the carrots. I made this almond crunch bar type of thing and it was delicious and I didn't have any upset stomach. I just made sure I drank enough water
I also some raw cookies which had combos of sweets/fats/proteins - a big no-no in the food combining world. I didn't have any bad experience there either. I drank lots of water. I think the fact that the ingredients were raw makes a big difference.
Let me know how it turns out for you.

Its interesting that you say that cooked food combining is worse then raw.
I never really payed any attention to food combining before I went 100% raw.
I felt pefectly fine eating egg sadwiches. Now I find that a lot of fat/sweet combos really don't agree with me. May be I would just have to eat them in smaller amounts.
I combine carrots and avocados all the time and it seems to be ok for me.
I was just wordering what the official food comboninf rule about this.

I think Alissa has a small section in her cookbook addressing combining. I think I remember reading it in my book. I know that there are tons of links and sites you can find just by doing an inquiry for food combining.. I don't think I've found any good sites that focus only on raw food combining, more from a SAD perspective.
I'm not sure why I never experimented with carrots and avocados. Sounds interesting.

I think that when you first start out, that is something you should not be concerning yourself with because (like Alissa said in her book) raw is already strict enough...when you start incorporating all these rules into it especially in the beginning, you run into problems with sticking with it.
If there are things going on in your body or you're getting reactions to certain combinations, then yes, look into food combining - but if not and you're just trying to follow some rule of thumb or guideline based on a specific raw food philosophy then you're possibly setting yourself up to GIVE up.
I find that I can handle small amounts of the desserts...but mainly because they are just so rich that I get full (satisified) from a small piece. But I don't get an upset stomach or anything like that after eating them. I think that if you want to have something that is not the best combined, that's fine on occassion...from time-to-time if YOU feel you can handle it. The whole thing is, don't be SO stringent and rigid that you simply write-off having something when YOU feel you need/want it to keep you feeling satiated on this "diet" (lifestyle). You don't need to label yourself as any one type of raw fooder...just eat raw and eat what makes you feel good.
I don't eat desserts and recipes daily or maybe not even weekly but when I feel the urge to, I will. That is the beauty of Alissa's approach to raw.
But there is plenty out there on the 'net and in various books on food combining.
