Default Vitamix blades question (ice blades vs wet blades)

I just bought my second vitamix. My first one was the 4500 and that model came with the "ice" blade. The second one that I purchased (with the variable speed dial) came with a "wet" blade. You can tell which blade you have if you look in your blender container at the blade, the wet blades have a "w", the ice blades have an "i" and the dry blades have a "d" on it.

My question is regarding the "wet" blades. I read that the "ice" blades are for smoothies and chopping up ice. Can somebody tell me their experience with the "wet" blades regarding their smoothies and dropping in ice cubes? Do ice cubes dull your wet blades, or should I crush the ice before dropping them in my smoothie when I use the wet blades?

    Thank you for any advice.

I've had my Vitamix for 18 years now (WOW) and have only one jug with the wet blade. I do ice all the time and it's fine. The different blade for ice is a recent invention designed mostly for smoothie bars. Feel free to use the wet blade!!

Do you have different jugs or are you meant to switch it over?

    Cheers,
    Sheryl

Yes, I have the different jugs, and am selling my old one (ice blade) to a friend. Thought I would ask for advice before I used my new one with the wet blades!

    Thanks for the info!

I saw the vitamix person (at Costco) demonstrate with the wet blade and they threw ice in the machine and made smothies and icecream and the wet blade worked great.

    Hope this helps.

Hi. I have both containers. I use the wet for everything...smoothies, banana ice cream, etc. I have only used the dry one once to grind up flax seeds. Have fun!
