Ulcerus colitus and digestion problems
Hello. Im new here and all new to raw, have not tried it yet but have to do something now.
I have ulcerus colitis and have been eating prednisolon for 1.5 year when I changed from vegetarian to (low carb) paleolithic diet. I had candida also and low carb was necessary. It has helped me as I dont have to eat the pills anymore but after 6 months I still am bleeding a bit now and then, and seems its causing problems with my digestion, lately I suffer from getting stomach acid in my mouth (know theres a name for that, cant remember what though), pain far up (under my ribs) in my stomach part from the "normal" pain far down. Ive started too look into raw and want to start eating more like that, starting with atleast one or two meals a day and then maybe go 100% once Ive learned a bit more and if it feels good.
Im afraid that a lot of ray veggies will make it really hard for my stomach, also, I have allergies towards most nuts and lots of vegetables ("only" IgG, meaning I wont notice right away but it might harm my intestines, dont know what problems it may cause, seen the results in a test). So Im a bit worried about it too.
Anyone recognize my problems and have any tips? Know of anyone with my disease that has been helped with raw? Im so frustrated about this constant pain now that I really feel like giving up sometimes...
Edit. Anything in particular I should think of, anything to avoid etc because of my condition?
-the new girl from sweden..
I had Crohne's disease for 1/3 of my life and 2 bowel resections. Since going raw I can actually eat all the things I thought I could.nt. Really I have no problems except some gas every now and then, but really, I just ahd a colonoscopy and I'm completetly clear!! I take no meds, just raw!!
That sound great! So glad for you. It really is an awful illness... Can you please tell me how a typical food day looks for you? What is a bowel resection? I have been warned by other people with my illness to eat much carbs. I have started adding more fruits and veggies lately, it has given me more energie but it seems more stomach pain :S
At the moment I eat quite a lot of meat, fish, organic coconut oil, green leaves.
I've heard that citrus fruits, tomatoes, paprica, aubergine and squash should be avoided if having imflammatory diseases. Unfortunately these are vegetables Im not allergic to, leaving me with few veggies left

All the best,
ive had ibs d for like 5 years now
ive tried 100's of things = dietary changes . herbs , suppliments , doctors meds etc
and my illness is bad , it runs my life . so i havent just been lightly taking this subject
and firstly because of my ethical outlook i use no creature products and havent for 15 years so that part of diet i cant say on , i was eating cooked plus raw strict vegan with no human concoctions like pop cake candy etc and still got this ailment so blame it on cooked or chlorine in drinking water or pesticides on our foods or damage done while younger and eating all the processed stuff
but ive determined from my past 15 years of reading books on diet disease healing etc that a RAW FOOD DIET is what we bestly exist on . in time we may come to discover that there are some cooked things that are actually good for us in moderation but until the human race grows wiser on this planet ive made my choice on raw food - like my ma calls my diet = monkey food
and some things that im feeling good about are sweet fruits and spinach
and right now i just discovered that juicing fresh pineapples is GREAT for me ,
the fresh pineapple juice is so soothing to my gut its like my g.i. tract is red hot inflamed and the pineapple is the only thing that douses the fire
so ide say get a good pineapple source and start juicing them constantly
oh and another thing im believing as a culprit is SALT , weve come to use ridiculous amounts and i think its softening our cells and making them easily diseased , and its changing our body chemistry / blood over to an illhealthful state . so im always fighting to end my addiction to salt . i use a small pinch in an extra virgin oliveoil applecider herb salad dressing , in this dressing i pulverize like 3 cloves garlic per say 1 and a half cups to give me the spicey sort of salty taste without the salt , other than that i quit salt
got to go but i'll revisit this thread
welcome to alissas site :)
oh ya and im drinking spring water now instead of chlorinated cuz think thats right
Caroob, I think you are referencing acid reflux. I have that as well as hearburn, IBS, lost my gall bladder, and liver kidney and bladder problems.......and more. My problem with the doctors is they think each of these things are separate but they are part of one whole digestive system. My IBS, heartburn and acid reflux are almost non-existant on raw. Since the doctors seem clueless I am tending to believe some of the other possible explanations that I am learning about since finding this site and other alternative health resources. I am thinking that all these cleanses for candida, parasites, colon cleanse, liver flush, kidney flush - maybe it will address the root cause for me. I have yet to meet a doctor who even acknowledges the possibility of above causes or possibility of hope for relief or cure through natural methods or any method for that matter. Maybe what I am experiencing is that if they don't have an Rx for it yet - well then they can't admit its existance. Much of what I have been told not to eat - well they are wrong - on raw I can eat it just fine! (In the fruit and vegetable categories.)
Thank you all! I am so incredibly happy you took the time. I've starting adding more carbs, especally fruits, and Im also doing an intestinal cleanse now (15 days in). Dont know if its a detox thing or what but my stomach is worse then in a long time... Im afraid that the carbs might be bad for me (some researchers who deal with colitis say so), I've seen some blood, not much though, twice this week and it scares me so..
Luckitri - Yes, reflux was the word I was looking for, thanks, not very pleasant but thats gotten a bit better, still feels lika an empty but heavy feeling in my stomach, and further down in the stomach it burns.. so sick and tired...
michigan roman - Im a bit allergic to pinapple that and bananas, dont know how bad it is to eat it but right now Im afraid to try...
chilove - thank you, Ive been looking for that book, ordered it right away, hope it won't take too long for it to get to swe...
I'm also a bit scarred that veggies and fruits (raw) migh be bad now when my intestines are not ok... also hard when Im allergic to lots of vegs (sweden is not the best country for this diet either, really hard to find raw stuff, love my carob and cacao powder but can't find it raw...) want to eat a lot of living food but Im not yet familiar with fermetation and sprouting. Going to get Ann Wigmores book aswell.
Thanks again you all! :)
Ahh I know of your problem well. You would be suprised how many people suffer that.
The thing I have found most helpful is to first rebuild the gut, get some probiotics, use enzymes, and be on a diet that works for you.
In regards to the gut, colon cleanses and all that are great, but of minimal use if the "materials" for rebuilding are not present. (I am assuming the paleo diet helped because it contains more of the materials you would need for gut health.) Specifically Glutamine, which is a god send! If you want to know the chemistry of it and such you can email me as it takes time to type out and everyone may not want to read it.
The easiest thing to do is get some Intestinew from www.renewlife.com
That stuff works excellently as I have used it personally with much benefit. Also, their Ultra emergency probiotics have 30 billion bifidus and 20 billion others...a good combo. Toss in a good enzyme when you eat...I like the ones from:
and you are set. If you want to do a cleanse as well, renewlife also makes a starting cleanse (not the first cleanse but the ultra i think its called) that can be done with the intestinew. That intestinew will clear up leaky gut and alot of other issues!
If ya need help putting all this together let me know. You can email me and I will help ya. Quite along time back I had some gut problems similar to what you describe but have long since been free of them. My email is email@example.com
Wisslewj - Thanks, I already eat top probiotics from Holland (VSL#3, used in hospitals in Canada and with 450 biljon bacterias of 8 different kinds). Have you had problems yourself you mean?
I havent dared trying Glutamine since its related to glutamate (not sure thats the right word in english) and that can be very damaging... I'm mostly into changing my diet, tired of trying more "miracle working" stuff that does not seem to make any differences, tried most of it, homeopathy, aloe, MSM etc... but still, if there's something you can really tell me makes a difference and how, Im interested!
I've tried enzymes but cannot really say Ive noticed any benefits.
I'm worried that starting to eat a lot of fruits and veggies (also, Im allergic to so many veggies and nuts) will harm my stomach, a bit worried about the carbs actually... )
Also think that although eating all natural foods (although not raw, referring to the paleo diet) has helped. But I used to be a vegetarian and eat quite a lot of carbs. Being on a low carb paleo diet means atleast three meals with meat and fat every day. More then 50 Energy percent of my daily intake was from fat, and I've eaten about 300-500g of meat per day (tried keeping it down a bit more lately). Thinking this might have put a strain on my digestive system as I've never suffered from such pain far up in my stomach before, and although I dont have diarréa anymore and feel better in some ways Im sick and tired of constant pain, worrying bout foods being bad for me (how to know what's the right way to go!!!?), I just want to feel "normal" :P

Caroob, i just wanted to tell you that there is a living food retreat near sthlm, in Väddö. I am from Sweden myself, and I know that they have plenty of experiences from healing crohns and colitis there, since one of the founder has been suffering from it himself. Maybe you already knew about this, but anyway, this is their website www.levandefoda.se
Best of luck!
What a great topic here. My daughter may have colitis or crohn's but so far they haven't diagnosed the problem. Colonscopy, if she does it next month. She is overwhelmed with all this great information I send her. Great information shared and people can be healed. I am concluding it is a choice to change. I know in certain areas of my life, not food, I paid the price of ignorance. I am so excited with all your sharings. My daughter always said she ate healthy, but wonder how this would happen. Maybe in her own eyes she was eating healthy, but if you peak in her pantry or refrigerator you would know the truth sadly. I sure hope the grandbaby will learn to eat better along the way too. Keep up the great work all. I'm your cheerleader!!! I have to get over to Audrey's website.
Audrey, Thanks for your story.
Last night news said there is a parasite that is giving off the same symptoms my daughter is having with what we are thinking is or was colitis. She is taking bentinote and also probiotics as of yesterday. We shall see.
Oh, testimonies at David Klein's, www.colitis-crohns.com are fabulous. Hope I posted correct website.
Jeff, reread your great info....thanks....
My daughter is still in pain as I write. She has been to chiro twice, medical dr. twice, two different specialist so that is 6 medical visits, blood work done, magnesium drink showed nothing so far, now recommending colonoscopy that would be end of next week. It was recently recommended by someone who had Colitis, and not sure if it is crohn’s, green juices for 3 days. She is doing that and tonight severe pain as this is her first ½ of the day juicing just greens.
We are lost for words on the next course of action. Someone suggested Hippocrates which would be $4,000+ for that 3 week off campus visit plus I believe some tests are additional charge. She has a 2 year old so I can fly down and be with her during this time watching my grandbaby. What a mystery. She can’t get adequate rest during the day as the grandbaby doesn’t sleep much. So we are back to square one. Any suggestions?????
I believe she is still doing her probiotics.
Daughter had again more blood work yesterday, waiting for results, but today she went to an accupuncturist who said she surely has digestive problems plus her body was totally out of wack including her feet being like ice cubes on a 90 degree plus day. Her stomach was still in a burning mode and pain when she went in so he was seeing her in total action mode then. He used needles, gave her two bottles of inexpensive supplements, put a patch on her that has a methol warming effect for 24 hours (removes then) plus has her drinking only warm water and broths. She can eat barley and rice. She's doing miso too. Oh, he suggested ginger, ginger, ginger fresh too. I have been reading about it's benefits.
I know she is not close to raw yet, but first she is trying to get her inflammed stomach and probably lining feeling to keep food down and become pain free without diah. This is the first thing he wis working towards. He cannot tell yet if she is fighting stress in her stomach area or something grabbing onto her stomach. He did not say what he meant. She did the 3 day green drink without any relief. I'm not saying it's not helpful for her she needed someone to "directly" work with.
Just wanted to share and not knocking raw as the way for healing but there are situations we have to address for our own individual condition. I'm hoping she will get rid of animal ingredients too.
Hope this encourages someone. This man is in Arlington, TX and has 20 years experience.
