Thread: Cold

    Default Cold

What are the best fruits to have when you have a cold? People have said to drink water and rest, which is what I have been doing, but I have been finding myself hungry at night and wanting food. Should I go on Day 3 of drinking distilled water, coconut water and orange juice (clementine squeezed oranges), and move onto grapes, strawberries, etc, or not yet?

I'm still getting phlegm in the morning (this morning it was a dark yellow - greyish color), stuffy nose, dry cough, etc. So I'm wondering what would aide the "cold"... Is that what it seems like I have? I might have a bacterial infection most likely... I don't think it's strep because it doesn't hurt at all when I swallow.

I'm trying to understand what it is I have and how to deal with it. I know it's contagious because now my mom has the same symptoms.

    Comments? Suggestions?

Citrus fruits are best because they are high in Vitamin C.

in my opinion, lemon juice with warm water alternating with tangerine juice. abstaining from eating solid foods is key!
Herbal teas prepared with soaking and warming is ideal too.

blueberries and strawberries are even higher in vitamin C than oranges!

Are there any foods right now that sound especially good to you? Maybe your body is giving you a signal?

How about some of the classic yogi tea? It's chock full of "warming" spices like cinamon, cloves. Also, I like traditional medicinals teas. I get them at whole foods, and they have helpful names like "cold calm"

Garlic, onions. I eat 1-2 whole garlic cloves if I feel phlegmy.

I have also read somewhere (not sure where) that parsley tea can be good for clearing head phlegm.

For a dry cough, but the feeling that I have phlegm in my chest that I can't dislodge, I drink mullein tea. It is an antimucigen.

How about a steam"facial"? Get a large bowl, fill it with boiling water, throw in a tablespoon of dry herbs or handful of fresh or a few drops of essential oil. Eucalyptus, maybe? Lavendar or Rosemary? I'll bet a quick google search would turn up something appropriate for your sympotoms. Make a tent with a bath towel over your head and the bowl, to hold the aromatic steam in. Don't get your face too close to the water, as the steam can burn you.

AS always, check these things out for any contraindications--your current health conditions, medications, supplements, herbs, etc. could make something that is otherwise benign dangerous!

Best wishes, and get well soon!

    Thanks guys and gals.

So not eating solid foods is the best, I am sure.

Blueberries sound great to me, but are they in season? Does anyone know?

What are some easily digestable foods that are currently in season?
