It's whatever you want. Fun thing about life ~ and raw food (or anything else for that matter) ~ you have choices.

Hi, you don't HAVE to eat anything,

this raw forum is about supporting the raw vegan lifestyle as written about in Alissa Cohens' book "Living on Live Foods" but you certainly don't have to eat nuts or seeds if you don't wish to.

    we mainly eat
    fruits
    vegetable
    nuts
    seeds and
    sprouted grains,

although we have many members who eat mostly fruits (like myself) or mostly greens, or mostly whatever.

so, you can find lots of recipes here for all kinds of great foods, some with nuts other without, if you wish to change recipes from nut based, you can always use coconut, or seeds, or if you don't want those, you can use sprouted grains, or even thicker fruits, like squashes or root veggies, as yams, parsnips, and such make good bases instead of nuts, so it's easy to eat whatever you wish while eating raw foods.

    good to have you here.

    My experience:

-I haven't eaten nuts for quite some time....and I am happy....so my opinion is that it is not necessary....at least for me. I think the important part is that YOU make a conscious decision about what you think.....pursue it....and get back to me. :)

    David,

Do you eat any greens? What does a typical day's food look like in your life?

    Just curious.

Oh sorry about changing the focus of the thread....

    Back to nuts--

I personally don't think they are necessary, but it is good for a well-rounded diet and proper fats (though you could get those from other sources besides nuts)

No: Transitioned to all fruits several years ago. I pretty much mono-eat in season (one thing at a sitting...every couple of hours during the day...usually whatever is in season or cheap or both! LOL).

    My day lately:

Breakfast: A couple of glasses of fresh OJ
Snack: a few cups of grapes...or a couple of pears...or whatever
    Lunch: 5 small avocados
    Snack: 3 or 4 apples....a couple of peaches.....or whatever
    Dinner: A small Papaya

-Of course, the diet is no substitute for joyful living...conscious attention.....and extending a hand of friendship to the world.

-Just my experiences / opinions...which I hope are helpful.

    current bodyfat is
    18-19% in the AM
    15-16% in the PM,
goal is to see this go down 3% (as they are not as accurate as they are consistant ! )

You do need some fats but you do not have to get it from nuts or seeds.
    Have some avocado instead.
I always think back to the concept that we should be eating as the Chimps do and that we are using the nuts and seeds instead of the few insects and grubs that they use to supplement their diet so I think that a few are good.

as well-said above, you don't HAVE to eat anything

this is about joy and listening to your body

I do think though that there are certain nutrients found in each nut and seed that are valuable to the body, and they aren't found in fruit & greens.. you don't need a lot of them, just a small amount...

I prefer seeds to nuts myself. I think they're easier to digest

You didn't really ask for diet advice except for nuts, but now that you've listed a typical day, you've kinda left yourself open!!

First, as has been wonderfully stated, you can eat whatever you want.

Secondly, if you were asking me, I'd advise you to lose the green powder and eat actual living greens. And, yes, a few nuts now and then won't hurt, but you don't HAVE to eat them. I think that, unless you have an eating disorder, if you "splurge" on nuts, your body must be needing them.
