Default Need help sprouting in a hot and humid climate

I have tried and tried to sprout here. Can't get anything to sprout without molding. I rinse 4 times a day and still it molds or ferments in the case of soaking.

    Please help!!!!

Hi! I live in a hot and steamy climate too! I've rarely had troubles with mold or fermenting, though, unless I leave things too long. Do you not have air conditioning? Because this should control humidity as well as temp. You can also soak in the fridge just fine, since you're not really trying to grow the seeds in this case, you don't need warmth, and nothing will ferment at low temps. As to sprouting, maybe you're trying to sprout too long a tail? I usually just wait until I see a tiny little tail, and then consider the matter done. The longer you let the sprouting continue, the greater the chances of mold. Finally, some seeds are harder to sprout and thus you'll have more chances for failure. Try the easier stuff that sprouts quickly.

    Good luck!

Thanks. My most recent failure was black beans and chick peas. They hadn't shown any signs of starting a sprout.

Wait a minute - I bought them locally so maybe they weren't raw. I'll order some and try again.

When I have tried to do seeds for actual sprouts, I have had the same problem. I have broccoli seeds now, are they easy to sprout?

Another thing to consider is how your sprouting. Are you using a jar or other closed in method? If you are I would consider using a sprout bag, that will give you more air flow. If you want to try it out without investing in a bag the lower leg/foot section of a cheep pair of nylons/stockings. They are basicly the same thing. A hemp sprout bag will hold more moisture, a nylon/synthic one will hold less.

Warning - do not eat sprouted black beans, they are TOXIC!

A lot of beans are toxic and/or difficult on the digestive system, so please be very, very careful!

If you are sprouting seeds, there may be some white fluffy stuff that is mistaken for mold. You might want to check www.sproutpeople.com and see if there's some info about that.

AAAAARRRRRHHHH! Glad those didn't work out, but I just bought a 2 pound bag. Now what? What is toxic about them?

    Checking out sproutpeople.com
