Default How important is it to vary the foods you eat?

It's easy in the summer - lots of fruits & veggies abound. But now that it's winter, I find myself staying with mostly the same fruits/veggies - mostly because there isn't that much available - or if it is, it's an arm & a leg for organic. I tend to shy away from stuff at the farmer's markets that I know are not in season.

I'm eating ALOT of bananas, apples, and oranges - especially in my smoothies. Some kiwi & pineapple. Not so many veggies, mostly cucumbers, tomatoes (both fruits I suppose) and celery. I vary my greens as much as I can - sunflower greens, different kinds of kale, parsley, spinach, romaine, rainbow chard.

If we aren't able to get the fresh fruits & vegetable variety we get during the summer, are we going to be lacking anything during the winter when alot less is available? Just curious...I'm hoping to get pregnant soon and want to have the best health possible from the get-go.

I don't think you'll/we'll lack anything. I keep hearing how it's good to eat what is seasonally/locally available anyway and therefore, if what is available and seasonal during the winter is what it is, then you will do fine with those items. Just rotate as you can/desire to do so. Don't forget the squashes whereas you can make "pasta", soup, pate', etc. and don't forget your nuts and seeds!
    Detox getting rough?
    Let's "smooth it out"!
