I was reading about the trace mineral cobalt the other day and learned something quite interesting.

Many vegans and vegetarians I speak with seem to have low iron counts, which seems paradoxil since many of the foods eaten have plenty of Iron.

Well, it turns out that it may actually be the result of a cobalt deficiency.

Inside the center of every B12 molecule is a cobalt. Since vegans/vegetarians are often deficient in B12, this would in turn cause a deficiency in cobalt.

Cobalt is needed for efficient uptake of Iron, but without the B12, which has the cobalt in it, the uptake of iron is far less effecient. (pretty kewl the synergy huh!)

So, if ya have an iron issue, you may really have a B12 issue, which means ya really could have a cobalt issue! ;)

God Bless
