The only Calavo website I could find was for avocados. Does anyone know about the dates??? My grandma brought us some for Thanksgiving, along with a bowl that included apples, a bunch of grapes and a banana. It was so nice :)

    The calavo dates any one?

Lunar*Fey, I am trying to find something for you. Looking under "date varieties" in the search engine. There was a link here on RFT several months ago to a raw couple's site and they had pics of an amazing variety of fruits, veggies, and the assortment of dates was huge. You might try to find that link. Your dates may be there.

Thank you Doe. I think I found the link but it didn't say whether the Calavo Company's dates were raw or not.
thank you so much though, I hope to find this out.

Oh I found this on a site about raw...what do you tihnk it means exactly?

" Dates usually only reach us in the dried state. The Calavo and Dromedary brands, available in supermarkets, don't have any additives. The varieties available in health food stores usually don't have any chemicals or sulfur dioxide, but they are sometimes honey-dipped. Some of the popular varieties are Deglet Noor, Medjool, Khadrawi, Barhi, Halawi, Zahidi and Bread dates. Some of the varieties are very large and of superb flavor, but they are seldom available, and quite expensive. I usually buy my organically grown dates from Jaffe Brothers, and "fill in" by purchasing a few at the health food store."

I haven't heard of the brand Calavo specifically, but my understanding is that heat is applied in the pitting process for dates and prunes.

hmm Thank you veganman. That's rather upsetting, although I guessed the pitting process would entail heat. darn.
