Default What are you serviing for Thanksgiving?

    Hey everyone,
I thought we could start a "what are you serving" thread - for people to get ideas and to see how varied raw thanksgiving meals can be!

    Some of my ideas:

Ice cream sundaes - layers of banana ice cream and mashed hachiya persimmon!

    Fresh dates

    Fresh fuyu persimmons

    Orange/pineapple/avocado trays

Winter salad - shredded cabbage, lettuce, chunks of orange, chunks of avocado, parsley

    Fresh squeezed OJ.

What are some of your ideas?

Well...since I'm going to my cousin's home and they are all big turkey eaters, I'll be taking Alissa's "noasted" turkey, her pumpkin pie and Sharon in Colorado's Colonial's Slaw recipes! I'll also be taking RP's brownies, fresh fruit with a dip (out of Alissa's book) and I'm thinking that's it! It's funny because I was asked to bring the famous green bean casserole, you know the one - with the cream of 'shroom soup and toated onion things on top? Since my stove is no longer plugged in, I'll mix all that up and they'll have to heat it up there at her place.
I'm curious to what other raw foodists will be serving.

    Poor Turkeys
I dunno just something about that poor carcass on the plate, ugh!!! Anyway, I'll be bringing to my mom's a Noasted Turkey loaf, RP's Stuffing, some Rawsome Cranberry/Pear Relish and Gravy( raw of course). My mom got all sorts of berries for me for dessert, although I may make a banana cream pie with choc frosting, wow, I'd better get crackin!! Have a wonderful holiday, even if someone's relative is unaware in their actions, just know deep down, they love you!!:):) A famour quote from the movie "Madagascar"

I, too, am going to be celebrating with SAD family members. I am bringing a salad with different types of greens (haven't figured out which dressing to make yet though), RPs Waldorf salad, and Boutenko's Live Garden Burger served in red/yellow/orange pepper quarters.

I'm going to my familys who are all vegetarian, thank goodness so no turkey But they are not raw. I'll be bringing Alissa's pecan pie and Mock turkey loaf. Both those are pretty nut heavy but they will be for everyone.

Well, I WAS planning on making a big raw avocado quiche as an entree, some guacamole with zucchini chips and also some flax crackers with some nutty seed cheese for appetizers, but I was told that the family won't be having any of it, regardless of how hard I work making it.

    Screw that.

I decided instead to fast for the week, kind of an anti-feast fast if you will. So, since I'm the only one that won't be eating death this Thursday at my fiancee's parents' house, I'm just planning on making a huge jug full of pumpkin/apple/ginger juice and sprinkling some clove/nutmeg/cinnamon on it. Liquid Pumpkin Pie anyone?

K-lee I've realized with my family and loved ones fruits and salads are the best way to go, especially when they really want traditional fare. It is just hard to warm up to raw recipes when they really want all that SAD stuff, and don't have an open mind about trying new things, which most people don't on this holiday.

A couple of Thanksgivings ago, I made a whole bunch of raw recipes, mock turkey, pies, the whole shpiel. I don't know why I made so much, especially since I was the only one who was going to eat it. It was really a waste of time and resources as the pies didn't get eaten. I rolled the mock turkey into meat balls and rehydrated, and they lasted a long time in the refrigerator and eventually got eaten. But the pies had to get thrown out, ugh...all that money in nuts and dates!

So this year I'm making a simple traditional dinner but with a very large salad and fruit. I am planning on serving the salad FIRST instead of with dinner that way eveyrone gets some fresh food in them.

I'll put out some dates for dessert but I won't make any kind of raw pies again - they just dont compare to the cooked ones (to me at least).

There is one "raw" thing though that I'll be making and that is cranberry sauce, just puree' some cranberries with apples and honey, that's always a hit.

I'm bringing the 'cheesecake', cranberry/orange/walnut relish and the salad dressing. My son & his fiance are picking up the main course for the 3 of us from Cafe Gratitude in Berkeley. Ymm - we'll be eating that while they chomp away on dead turkey carcass (I'm hoping if I call it that often enough I won't want any). This'll be my first raw holiday - we'll see how it goes. It'll be interesting to see if any SAD eaters besides my dad & step-mom will be brave enough to try the cheesecake... most people tend to act like we're eating poison or something

I am going to a friend's house for Thanksgiving dinner, so I will be bringing

    a desert tray:

my brownies, with coconut cream frosting

my lemon chiffon in date and almond tart shells, topped with macademia nut whipped cream

my chocolate mousse in chocolate fudge decadance tart shells topped with razzleberry drizzle

my razzleberry drizzle on macademia nut cheesecake squares

    and
Banana and apple crepes, filled with chopped spiced walnuts and sliced banana, topped with cinnamon swirl cream

that should give those SAD tastebuds a lickin' LOL

I suppose dating a gourmet master chef has it's advantages, I must say, I'm doing alot more exotic raw, and he's learning alot too. LOL
