So the bottom line is that Alissa Cohen posted this article because she will be getting a $2,000.00 finders fee from the television station if she finds a raw family for them to expose and possibly have their children taken away from authorities. That is why there is no contact info and you are instructed to contact Alissa Cohen at her email address instead of giving you the contact information to the television station instead. So Alissa can get the $2,000.00 finders fee.

Now why would you even insinuate that Alissa is that hard up for $2000 that she would deliberately put a family in jeopardy of losing their children to get it. She probably thought it was a good opportunity and idea and before Victoria sent out the article, there were many families who were actually considering it and in fact, there WAS a raw vegan family who did the Trading Spouses episode. And truth be told, there probably are families who will still do it because they don't feel anyone has the right to take their children away based on this. I mean, if people were that scared to "expose" the fact that they feed their children raw, there wouldn't be "Raw Family" books and websites. Yeah, tv is more exposure, but the internet and published books can STILL be considered high exposure especially if gotten into the "wrong hands".

Don't read the negative into everything.

Methinks you might consider finding a new "home". That's one of the most inane posts I've ever seen here. Downright rude.

Yeah, she really needs the money to support this board so folk can say things like that about her. Sheesh! *shakes head and leaves others to their othernesses*.

I think Alissa is such a dear to post this so that some wonderful raw family has the opportunity to gain $20,000.00 I can think of our beautiful Rawkinlocs first off, as my pic.

I think Victoria has some good points, and each person must make their own decisions based on their feelings about doing this.

If I had a family, I'd do it in a heartbeat, I think it would be fun to show people how wonderful raw food is, and how healthy you can become in such a short period of time.

However, I wouldnt' eat the cooked food no matter what, so they may not want me.

I do feel it is an excellent opportunity to make some great money, a few new friends, and to help spread the raw message to the world.

Just imagine, how many people would be sitting there thinking that eating raw food is eating raw meat and eggs, and maybe wilted lettuce and rubber carrots, and then seeing the gorgeous food that Alissa prepares, or Rawkinlocs has -- thinking fondly of those cinnamon rolls she makes, imagine how many people would maybe attemtp to make some beautiful raw meals, or come on our board, if even just one, was to find the raw lifestyle interesting enough to check it out, I'd say it was a very good thing to do.

Let's support anyone who has the courage to do this, I mean living with a TV crew and a new family, can't be easy.

I support who ever wishes to do this, 100%.

Rawkinlocs, I'm thinking of you, and your beautiful family here. )

    RP, you're so sweet! :)

Yeah, when I first read this post, I DID think about it...$20,000 is a nice piece of change and would be a huge blessing to our family. But then I thought about being away from my family for two weeks and well, to be honest, I don't think I could stand it. I mean, when I went to Maine in September to help out with Alissa's class, I was only gone 5 1/2 days and I missed them so much I actually cried myself to sleep the first couple of nights.

So, I don't know that I could take it...having a strange woman in my home or being in a strange home. I've seen the show a couple of times and it seems like it "could" be kinda fun, but at the same time, I've seen some disasters and sometimes they tend to make the families out to look like weirdos or something.

But thank you for thinking of us!

You must be joking. Before you make such a ludicrous accusation, you might look around Alissa's website to see some of the things she's up to -- then you'd realize she doesn't need a $2,000 referral fee. After that, you could spend some time reading her posts back when she had the time to post on this forum (search using her name). That will give you a good idea of her personality, spirit, and intention. By that time, you'll understand how badly you misjudged her.

For anyone still interested in this discussion, here is the text of an email I received from the casting producer of this show in response to me sending her the concerns Victoria (and others of us) have:

    Hi _____,

I’ve actually already gotten over 50 responses this afternoon alone – but I do appreciate you forwarding me [these concerns]. . . . I only found out about the legal battles involved with raw food philosophy after families started applying and telling me about them. I assure you – and anyone who has concerns – that our goal isn’t to depict the raw food philosophy in a cruel or demeaning light. In fact, our background and psychological checks are so strong that no family who even gives the faintest hint of neglect or “abuse” with their kids would ever make it on the show. If we thought the raw food diet was even slightly harmful to kids we wouldn’t even pursue the topic – that’s not of any interest to us or ABC.

Our program is about featuring different parenting styles and lifestyles across the country that work for the individuals involved. I feel that after this particular episode airs a lot of our viewers will be interested in learning more about the raw foods philosophy and trying it with their own kids! Hopefully this e-mail has cleared up at least our approach to this topic. I realize there are some opponents to the philosophy – as there are in every philosophy – but hopefully we will shed some good light on the subject.

    Best,

    Heather Teta

I personally don't know any raw families who are either willing to eat cooked food for a week (this was one of Storm and Jinjee's* reasons for not doing this) or to leave themselves open to the kind of horrendous consequences that the
Andressohn* family has suffered. I do think publicity of the raw lifestyle is crucial to get to the SAD-eating public, but there is a huge difference between Alissa (and other "professional" raw spokespeople) being on TV and a well-meaning but "amateur" family putting themselves in a position where they have no say-so on how they will end up being represented.

    * Here is an article from this spring focusing on raw kids that mentions both families:

Wouldn't touch it (or watch it) with a barge pole!
I've heard of some of the things they've put homeschoolers through - they're presenting this as "an opportunity to share something of value with another family," but they're going to look for another mom who's a polar opposite to swap with, and the rules will mean that she has to feed your kids what she feeds hers for half the time. Then they roll the cameras for the whole week and pick out the juiciest, most volatile, dramatic tidbits to make everyone look like wackos on national television. No amount of money would tempt me to subject my family to that.

LoL! WHOOO. WOW. Well, thank you rawtruth, rawkinlocks and RP for standing up for me. Yeah, rawolive, Ill donate the money to a board member who needs it, ok? it wasnÂ’t about the money. Actually, its so funny, I didnÂ’t even read that part until it was posted somewhere else. When I received that message, Deb asked if she should post it on the board in case someone wanted to do it and I said sure thing.

Im astonished at the paranoia that people have.. Nothing like focusing on the negative. Personally I wouldnÂ’t do this show as like Storm and jinjee said, I would assume your going to have to eat the other familyÂ’s food.

The Andersons were a specific case. Man, talk about living in fear. Im amazed that as soon as this letter went out there was so much fear around this, letters being sent, emails being written, post being made…Way to go in creating your reality! Do you think its not already out there and if someone wanted to ‘get’ you all they would have to do is go on a board like this and find a family who’s raw….oh, sorry, maybe I shouldn’t plant the seed in some of your minds. Aughgghghgh!

I do agree with you here. This is Hollywood folks, not a positive documentary on the benefits of raw food. And although I agree with the others that Alissa is not doing this for a fee, Hollywood is all about the dollar and their ratings. Of course they would show a positive side to it, but they wouldn't stop at showing anything negative or demeaning either.

As Michigan Roman mentioned earlier, just the title of this show should tell you something.

    I saw this show.

The one family was raw vegan, the other family hunted local wild animals and lived on a high meat based diet.

The meat eater 'wife' was outraged when she realised that the raw vegan family had no means of heating food.

She bought the raw vegan family a 'nice new oven' and got them back onto a proper diet of 'cooked' food!

    Nonsense TV!

Default I am interested in your show

Sign me up and let me know how I can help. I have sarcoidosis and started living raw and I am healed. Please email me at gotmusic6@yahoo.com with more details. I love eating raw with a passion and would love to help you out.

UOTE=bowie]Alissa recieved this and wanted me to post it here if any of you are interested.
    -----------------------------
I'm a Casting Producer with ABC Television and we're looking to feature fabulous families who follow the raw foods diet - or a similar philosophy - on our upcoming show. I'd love to talk with families who are passionate about truly living and eating healthy. Has this diet enhanced your quality of life – or influenced your lifestyle and parenting style in other positive ways? Could another family learn a thing or two by experiencing your lifestyle? We want to hear from you!

We're currently casting for ABC's hit family show, Wife Swap! Please don't be confused by the title - Wife Swap is a family show on ABC primetime. The premise is simple: two moms from two very different families get the opportunity to swap lives (but not bedrooms - everyone has their own!) for a week to experience what it's like to live a different lifestyle - and to see what they can teach each other about their own! The goal is for both families to take away something positive from the experience while also teaching each other why their beliefs and philosophies are so important and beneficial. Again, I think the raw foods movement is a fascinating philosophy that many families may never have heard of - and could possibly benefit from! I found your information online and thought you would be a great resource - I would greatly appreciate you forwarding my information on to any families who might be interested in sharing their lives with us for a week!

All featured families will receive a $20,000 financial honorarium for their time - and $1000 goes to anyone who refers a family that makes it on the show! We are looking for two parent families with children (between the ages of 5 and 18) who are ready for adventure! I appreciate your assistance in reaching out to these great families and look forward to hearing from you soon![/QUOTE]
