Default wife swap needs raw family

Alissa recieved this and wanted me to post it here if any of you are interested.
    -----------------------------
I'm a Casting Producer with ABC Television and we're looking to feature fabulous families who follow the raw foods diet - or a similar philosophy - on our upcoming show. I'd love to talk with families who are passionate about truly living and eating healthy. Has this diet enhanced your quality of life – or influenced your lifestyle and parenting style in other positive ways? Could another family learn a thing or two by experiencing your lifestyle? We want to hear from you!

We're currently casting for ABC's hit family show, Wife Swap! Please don't be confused by the title - Wife Swap is a family show on ABC primetime. The premise is simple: two moms from two very different families get the opportunity to swap lives (but not bedrooms - everyone has their own!) for a week to experience what it's like to live a different lifestyle - and to see what they can teach each other about their own! The goal is for both families to take away something positive from the experience while also teaching each other why their beliefs and philosophies are so important and beneficial. Again, I think the raw foods movement is a fascinating philosophy that many families may never have heard of - and could possibly benefit from! I found your information online and thought you would be a great resource - I would greatly appreciate you forwarding my information on to any families who might be interested in sharing their lives with us for a week!

All featured families will receive a $20,000 financial honorarium for their time - and $1000 goes to anyone who refers a family that makes it on the show! We are looking for two parent families with children (between the ages of 5 and 18) who are ready for adventure! I appreciate your assistance in reaching out to these great families and look forward to hearing from you soon!

This is an interesting proposition, but I would caution anyone doing it as these shows have a way of finding your weak moments and broadcasting them. This would be excellent for someone who has no problem with that kind of thing.

Well, as I'm thinking about this, the "wife" coming into a raw food family will be making her own baked/cooked foods.

Another family could certainly learn a thing or two about the raw food lifestyle (IF they were open to doing so) yet, what would the raw family learn from the other "wife"?

Nice piece of "change" for someone willing to do it ~ and the person who refers them.

Yes, I cannot imagine a 100% raw vegan family eating cooked food, let alone any kind of animal product. I could see a lot of sickness, lethargy and cravings happening as well.

neither can i. i CAN see, if the situation was limiting enough to where the raw vegan wife was unable to find substantial raw food, her being like "pssh, no problem..i'm raw vegan baby, i can survive on sunshine and water alone" and fasting for those 7 days ;) lol.

but this is really cool..hope someone does it!

I've already seen an episode of Wife Swap with a raw vegan family. Is this old?

I agree Michigan Roman. But if it gets raw out there once again - that is good. I would imagine that the SAD wife would have to start making raw recipes right away. If many of the recipes are that quick and easy she can just follow them. The raw wife would sure have a challenge on her hands if she had to leave her equipment for the SAD wife. Many raw women still have to cook for SAD families that are not willing to change.

    Default caution

I just got an email of concern from someone about this. The basic caution is that eating raw vegan is not always considered healthy. There are several people that have had to deal with the state or ex-spouses wanting to take away their children because they "are depriving them." I think it is great to try to get the word out about raw foods, but we have to realize that not everyone agrees and if you are a parent and put yourself in the spotlight like this, you have to be aware that there may be consequences. I know the money is tempting, but there is no way I would put myself on TV at any risk of my child being taken away. Just something for you all to think about.

I can think of alot better ways to get the Raw message out that would be less harmful / instrusive to my family. You just know the producers are licking their lips and the thought of the 'weird' things they can catch a 'weird' family doing/saying on national TV. Would touch it (or watch it) with a barge pole! (But being in Oz means it's not really an issue for me ;)

    Default Comment from Victoria Boutekno

I rec'd this in my email today from Victoria ...

    Dear Friends,

There is an email that is being circulated about having raw food families appear on a reality based television show. Many people are unaware of the possible negative consequences that accompany such an offer.

Three months ago this TV company from New York called me several times and asked for the addresses of raw families in the US. They promised $2,000 to me if I help them find one and $20,000 to the participating family. I replied to them that while there were probably hundreds of raw families in this country it was unlikely that any raw family would want to be exposed. Now, as the word is out, I am concerned for some raw families who might agree to participate for the sake of money.

Just last weekend I was in Eugene and met my friend Nancy B., whose ex-husband (a former raw foodist) is suing her for "improperly" feeding her two boys (ages 7 years and 2 years). Both boys have developed well according to their doctor but she is afraid to live at home and is living in her van.

It is not just a fear, it is a reality. Raw food is not officially recognized yet. Since 2005 my family has been financially and psychologically supporting five different families whose children were attempted to be taken (or were taken) away by authorities. If similar children will get exposed, there will be some viewers out of millions that would want to help “poor” children to be fed “properly.” Especially if professional TV producers will get kids to talk. Children are often naïve and they can say things like, “Yeah, I also like pizza but my parents never allow me to eat it!” For years, my kids were questioned about their diet by many strangers on the street. We were able to escape by constantly moving.

I strongly believe that to expose the benefits of the raw food diet, adults have to act first without involving children, and this process is already happening. When it will become more normal and acceptable to be on a raw diet among adults than we can expose our kids.

    Sincerely,

    Victoria
