    Smile MEMBER DRBLOEM: Naturopath Physician

Hi, Dr Bloem I'm very exicted to see you are a member here. Welcome and most warmest wishes.

Are you intending to try 100% raw?

I was curious as to your diet before discovering raw?

Do you have any other food priniciples that you are applying into raw?

    :) With much respect.

    Dear MissLinda,

    Thank you for welcoming me!

I am intending to be as close to 100% raw and organic as possible. Sometimes it is a challenge, partly because my family (wife and two kids) are not yet fully on board with me yet.

My diet before discovering Alissa Cohen was SAD. I pretty much ate anything, although I never really enjoyed "junk food." So far, I have lost about 10 lbs.

Right now I am just trying to learn at least a few new recipes each week, especially looking for those that my family will enjoy too.

Thank you for sharing! It nice to know that doctors are human too.

I really find this fascinating and inspiring to have you journey with us.

Can I ask what nationality you are? Were you brought up with other cultural food priniciples.

Myself, I am Korean and little Hawaiian. I was raised with western and eastern food principles. There are some eatern food principles that I cannot let go of "mentally" b/c my understanding is of an intuitive one and it make sense. Do you experience this also?

    Dear MissLinda,

My parents grew up in the former Dutch East Indies (now Jakarta, Indonesia) and I grew up in the Netherlands. Ethnically, I am mostly Chinese and Dutch.

I don't feel that I am struggling with letting go of Eastern food principles or culinary habits. I am very aware of the benefitical effects that raw and living food has on me and would be happy to eat it all the time.

    Hoe gaat het met U?

I never expected to find other Dutch people here. I went to school at the Rijksuniversiteit te Leiden.

Thank you all for making me feel so welcome here! It already feels like family.

    drbloem,

Did you see under the topic of "rawfood events", there is a potluck in Hagerstown, MD? Posted by missrawdiva. Might be a place you could take your family and pick up some great recipes.

    hi--
in case you're interested, there is also a monthly raw vegan potluck held in the Washington DC area; location varies from DC to Montgomery Co, MD, to No.VA, at peoples homes. You should be able to get on the listserv for it or at least get more info from raw@vsdc.org. I've been to a few of their potlucks and the turnout and amount of food varies, but the food has been good the times I've gone and there always seems to end up being enough to go around. You get a real mix of people at these; some "veterans", some new people, some in between; everyone brings raw food but not everyone is high or all raw. Also, the coordinator for the potlucks is a really sociable committed raw vegan. Just thought I'd mention it in case you are looking for places to take your family.

Yes, a great big welcome to you Dr. Bloem! You don't know how nice it is to have an MD on board who advocates a raw vegan diet!

I think we have a mutual friend (?) Steve? Didn't you two meet at your training at Alissa's? I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know he and his lovely wife while assisting with the September class. He said you were a very nice guy! :)

    Thanks for joining us!
