Default Can Fasting Cure a Food Addiction?

Or am I just naive? I'm not overweight but I don't like thinking about food all day like I have been for... oh 25 years! I'm 31 (raw for 7 months) and just want to retrain myself on how to eat. I feel like I will never truly detox until I give my body a break from food. I have been eating non-stop since I was little. I was thinking that a two week water fast (supervised) might help me bring up some emotions/barriers that I can't run away from by eating and thereby help me confront my food issues. Any comments?

My opinion is that you never test the deepest waters with BOTH feet! LOL. If you have never fasted before...then what's the hurry? Try several short day fasts of just juice....and then water....before you you try a more extended fast of 3 or more days with just water.

-If you find you are very comfortable, light and willing with these shorter fasts....then I see nothing wrong with picking up the duration.

    -What do you think?

I think if you're already raw then a fast would be good. However I don't believe fasting breaks addictions when you fast right from the SAD or any other poor type of diet, because a fast tends to kick up addictions in many people.

Fasting is the best way I know to kick a food addiction. But you can't just refrain from eating food. You must also deal with emotional issues and retrain your brain.

Also, it will take many fasts before you even begin to put a dent in a food addiction.

Fasting is one of the most beneficial things one can do for ones health.

But I agree with mr mason, try a short fast first, but be aware that the first day or two are the hardest. After the third day, most people lose the desire to eat. Also after three days you must start refeeding slowly - the longer the fast the more slowly you must refeed starting with diluted juice in very small quantities, chewed in your mouth.

Best to be supervised not just by a doctor, but someone who has fasted several times for longer periods of time.

Like with everything else, if not done correctly....

I've always felt an "addiction" is a chemical inbalance, but certainly if you fast your body purges a lot of this from your system. After a fast, I'm more comfortable & willpower to stay away from the cooked stuff is loads better.

You get stronger throughout the raw road.
a 5 yr total transformation always begins with ONE day- the first day. :D
