According to her website she ate about 80% raw while pregnant, and then in an interview with Rax Vegan Radio she said she is currently about 95% raw. She'll have a tortilla to hold her raw veggies etc. As far as dying her hair I think she did that even whole 100%, but she went to aveda hair salons.

I think it is easy to judge people and that one needs to decide for one self how one wants to live and how far yuo want to go. If you do want to dye your hair, but not use all the chemicals henna would be a good alternative.

ETA: If you're blonde you can also use lemon juice and chamomile (sp?). I know there is some herb that can be used for dark hair, but I can't remember which one.

Selena, I certainly wasn't judging Shazzie - and I'm not saying you said I was, it's just that it could be construed that way. I mean, I wear make-up, dye my hair and still eat some cooked food.

Can you dye your hair blonde at Aveda Salons? I must check them out... Or is it all henna type stuff, ie only adding colour, but not going lighter... Although I am sick of being blonde, and want to go dark for a while... Maybe Aveda is my answer...

You can do anything you want with/to your body, whether you're 100% raw or 80% or 5%!!!!

You can wear stilletto pumps and bright red lipstick and bleach your hair to platinum. It's your body, and anybody who looks at you and wants to be the lifestyle police can put it where the sun don't shine!!!

You should educate yourself, however. Many folks here have stopped using products because of their potentially toxic effects on our bodies. But those products are not limited to makeup and hair dye. Even our shampoos, soaps, toothpastes, deodorants, etc. can contain toxic ingredients.

Educate yourself and make your decisions based on knowledge. Whether you're a long haired hippie who doesn't shave her legs (like me!) or a glamorous femme fatale, we'll still love and accept you! And so should everyone else, no questions asked!

BTW, there was an interesting thread a week or so ago in the raising raw kids forum re: Shazzie.

I didn't think you were judging Shazzie, and I apologize if it sounded that way. I also thought she was 100% raw again after being pregnant, and just recently found out that she wasn't. I was just trying to clarify.

This is the problem with forums, you can't see the people you talk to and things get lost in text

I think you can get your hair dyed blonde at Aveda salons, but I've never been to one so I'm not sure.

    HI there,

I use henna now that I'm raw and I love it. It is totally natural, is actually easier to use than I thought it would be and is cheaper than dye. I really like the way it comes out. You can check my after pics on my website if you want to see how the burgundy color comes out on my hair (I mix the henna mix with day old coffee to have it come out a little darker).

    All the best,

I stopped dyeing my hair about 4 years ago. It was very emboldening just to be myself. I hadn't seen my haircolor since junior high and was horrified that it wouldn't be "pretty" (it is by the way). I believe now that nature doesn't make many mistakes. I can see wanting to richen or brighten your color with henna, coffee or lemon etc...

I love henna. It is what I have used for several years now. However, my hair is a lot thinner after going raw, and I'm not as happy with it as I used to be. I need my hair to just grow back thick again.

I used to colour my hair before I went raw, but now it seems to shine without any artificial help

    Sooboopa,

I would be careful about products as many have neurotoxins in them as well as other chemicals that bind with things in your bodiy causing all sorts of issues. If you have light hair, there is probably something healthy and natural that can be used to tint it. If your hait is dark...leave it be lol.

A healthy diet with all the body needs will make your hair shine. My wifes hair looks like a pantene commercial and she uses no hair care procucts save some organic/natural shampoo. I actually thought she was going slightly blonde naturally the other day and it turned out that it was just so shiny that it was reflecting the light and looked lighter lol.

PS:Kombucha chick, my wifes hair started thinning on an all raw vegan diet as well. (It was falling out like crazy after a while and was all dry and ugly)Its protein deficiency along with a few other things basically. Its easily remedied with the proper raw foods added, but they are not vegan. If ya want help email me.

By the way, her hair has all returned and is actually fuller and healthier then it has ever been. All with the additionof one simple item. :)

Henna for Hair is an awesome site all about Henna. It has recipes, "almost free" samples (you pay $1 for shipping), pictures, and so much more. (And no, I don't work for them or anything :) ) I found the site when looking for info on Henna for my mom, and I think it's the best site for the subject of Henna. Here's the link: Henna for Hair

If you don't have alot of gray, henna is the way to go. My hair is 50% gray now, so henna doesn't work for me anymore. I did find this product called Herbatint, it's about as natural as you can get for a permanent dye to cover gray. It does have a small amount of Hydrogen Peroxide in it to help open the cuticle to allow the hair to absorb the tint from the plants.

I try to be, but every once in a while I pick up the wrong olives, or something else

I keep my food simple, but have a lot of small meals rather than complex big meals - you could almost say I graze
