Thread: Hair dye

    Default Hair dye

As a raw foodist, do you dye your hair?

Or have you leaned more towards a natural look.

I dye mine, but feel like a hypocrite.

I notice Shazzie is always changing her hair colour.

I still eat some cooked food. I wonder if I will feel compelled to go back to my natural colour if I'm 100% raw. Oh, and I also wear make-up...although not a huge amount.

I'm not 100% and I stopped dying my hair about a year ago. Stopped wearing makeup about 6 months ago. I just don't like the chemicals in the hair dye. They burn my nose, make my eyes water, and sometimes burn my scalp, so I just figure that it's probably not a good thing to put on my skin and hair. With makeup, I just don't like the cycle. You know...covering up the imperfections/break outs/random pimples with makeup, the makeup making my skin break out, needing to cover up the new break outs with makeup. I still break out (pms )...but when I don't cover it up with makeup and just let it clear up on its own, it goes away a lot faster and I don't get new break outs, finding myself in a constant state of breaking out. My skin is definitely better for it.

I think when you get to 100% and get past some detoxing, you'll find that your skin is so beautiful, clear, radiant...you won't feel a need for makeup. That's what I see in the women on this board who are 100%. Can't wait to get to that!

I stopped Coloring my hair 3 months ago because after eliminating chemicals & preservatives from my houseold, food and beauty products I knew the Hairdye had to go.

I had highlighted and then dyed my hair for 10 plus years.

After 3 months of using henna my hair looks like it did years ago. It is the best condition ever & great Natural Color.

I use Monave Mineral Make Up, Jason and other Natural MakeUp. I like the look of MakeUp and see no reason to give it up as long as I can find natural organics.

I henna my hair and love it. Not just the color but the texture and strength and the way it catches the light. :) The only other color cosmetic I use, and that sporadically, is achiote.

Some of the components of mineral make-up are called "lakes"; these are micas colored with artificial dyes.

Yep. For two reasons. One, I am getting some grays and I hate them. The color blends in but the texture does not. The dye helps smooth them out a bit. Second, my dishwater blonde hair bleaches out in the summer and leaves me with dark roots in the winter. I only color my whole head 3-4 times a year. The rest of the time I carefully touch up only the roots and gray. I don't dye it a different color so this is easy to do.

I will occasionally add highlights because I have really nice natural ones but the dye tends to cover those up.

    Default Henna

    I like using Henna.

I read once that women who dye their hair black have a much higher incidence of bladder cancer...

Including some of us! Lissomllama is there, as is Coriander. That's how I found this site.

Thanks for your responses guys. My creative side would like to explore other colours. I am dark blonde at the moment. I'd like to try brunette, red and a lighter blonde...but doing so over a period of time, not changing every couple of months or anything. But I wonder if I will change once I become more pure. My hair is also very long, so I will visit that site Mysticalwoman. I know this issue is hardly on a par with global warming or anything, but I'm just wondering where I'll go with this.

Shazzie, is not even 100% raw anymore. She admits it herself on her website.
I don't think that she is a good role model for raw lifestyle.

I don't colour my hair, haven't for yaers. I only use a little bit of makeup, powder & blush. I still have some dark circles upder my eyes, hopefully they will go away soon. I use glowminerals brand of make up, it is all natural.

I feel this topic alot. I color my dreadlocks at least once or twice a year. I guess to give them a new look. I have bounced between Auburn, Red and Blond. My natural hair color is Brown and I love it, but with dreads you need to do different things because after growing them out for 18 years one can get a bit bored.

As for make-up - my opinion - The natural make-up brands dont do anything for me. I tried to be conscious and buy organic and fair, but the colors ( I love eyeliner...especially greens, blues and purples) were not bright enough for me and they ran. I will stick with my "unnatural" make-up. I choose to save the world in other ways. Peace Skai

VeryBerry, I thought Shazzie only ate cooked food for a little time whilst she was pregnant?!? I didn't know she was still eating it? Whatever floats your boat I suppose...

I just stopped dying my hair, mainly on a bet my roommate and I bet. I'm not going to cut or dye my hair until May...but it does burn my scalp and is a pain to do.

I stopped dying my hair nearly 2 years ago. I used to hate my hair color. Now on raw for some time my natural hair is very pretty. I wear make-up to weddings, occasional business meeting, or whatever. Not much, once in a blue moon. I will wear lipstick pretty often, but other then that, not hardly at all.
