How long does it take to peel, seed, & store 27 pomegranates?
The answer is 5 ½ hours!!! I just picked, peeled, seeded, and stored 27 mostly large pomegranates! 23 pounds of pomegranates turned into 11 pounds of seeds. I stored some in the refrigerator and the rest in the freezer for my smoothies.
I want to do this once or twice a week until the tree is picked clean, since normally the neighbors tree has so many pomegranates rot on their tree. I figure theyÂ’re better to be in my tummy!
So how long will they stay good in the freezer?

Oh Minnie! Wow! I don't know how long they will keep but you sure are set on not wasting those pomegranades huh! Thank you for making me smile here! ;)

I saw this on some tv show and tried it, but only on one Pom. Cut one in half, hold one of the halves in your hand, cut side over a bowl, whack on the back side with a big tablespoon or serving spoon. The seeds fall out into the bowl. Every now and then tear out the membrane and whack again till all the seed come out. Worth a try?

I saw something similar. Actually I didn't see the chef cut it open and that's what threw me. I was talking to my friend on the phone at the time and she saw the same thing. Neither of us could figure out how the seeds got out. But I just looked it up and found yet another way. I should try this since I have some that might soon go bad.

Okay, I just tried it and man oh man was that fast! I started with the crown end...the part that looks like a flower. Began to cut that off and noticed the skin peeling away. So I just carefully began peeling it, leaving only the bottom bit on. I did knock it with a spoon but that only knocked out a few seeds. I didn't need the bowl of water though. There was no struggle at all getting the seeds out. I merely massaged it gently over a bowl and the seeds plopped right out. Every once in a while I had to stop to pick out the pithy stuff, but none of the seeds got smashed.
Guess I've been doing it wrong all these years. My dad used to cut it in two and have us dig out the seeds with a spoon. What a messy endeavor that was!

Hi Minnie,
I don't know the answer to your question, but I was wondering if you are still holding raw food potlucks in the South Bay. If so, where can I get this info? Thanks so much.

I know just me eating one pomegrate I'm all red handed. It's even tough getting the color off of my hands. Now with 5 1/2 hours later my hands would look on fire. Are gloves your best friend doing this process? I have two waiting for me from the store. Sure wish I had trees to climb and get from. How about a picture of you doing them?
