Need Help With Raw Oatmeal Recipe
Hello everyone,
I'm new to raw food. I've been 100% raw for 1 month and counting. I need help with the following: I recently found a recipe for raw oatmeal which I'm interested in. Here it is:
1/2 Cup raw whole oats *, soaked overnight in pure water to cover.
1/4 Cup almonds, soaked overnight in pure water to cover.
2 figs or 2 pitted dates, soaked in 1/2 cup pure water overnight.
1/2 banana dash of cinnamon.
The instructions state that you can use kamut, barley or any other type of whole grain. I want to know if WHOLE OATS/WHOLE GRAINS is the same as ROLLED OAT/ROLLED GRAINS. I went to my local framers market and purchaed ROLLED raw kamut instead of oats. I also saw WHOLE RAW GROATS. Can I use the rolled raw kamut in this recipe? Is there a difference in nutritional content between rolled and groats?
Thanks for your help and advice,
-Jen

When I went to Glaser Organic Farms for a raw class, they informed us about the rolled oats....unless you are sure they were not ....assume they were "rolled" using steam. Although they may not be technically "cooked"..they are not RAW. You can use oats groats..these are RAW.....they are great with the "oatmeal" and have a great texture soaked....enjoy...I buy mine fresh rolled from www.goldminenaturalfoods.com ....they are fabulous. one bite and you can tell the difference, and will never buy "rolled" oats from any health food co-op, store or vender again! good luck! :)

hey gyllisa... she bought them from the glaser farm farmers market, so Im going with they're actually raw.. though I dont remember seeing raw on the lable.. but I wasnt really looking for that when I saw them today. Think they can be used in place of the WHOLE OATS that the recipe calls for?
how did you like the class? i haven't taken it yet but am planning on it as soon as possible.

I make raw oatmeal all the time,(in fact, I just ate a bowl today for breakfast).
I use the recipe from Jennifer Crnbleet's book. It uses soaked oat groats.
Whenever I get a craving for something hearty I make this. It's the ultimate comfort food.

Glaser Farms rolled oats are NOT RAW. Just to let you know. Glaser has a lot of things that aren't actually 100% raw. Okay for transitioning, but not if you're looking to be 100%. Raw oats at the health stores are usually not raw either. You need to contact the manufacturer to find out.
I believe there is only one source of raw rolled oats available that supplies to Alissa, among others. It's very hard to find.

Hi spicyfull!
Thank you for your post and support. To answer your questions, no, I didn't take the 30 day challenge. I have transitioned into raw. It has taken me a year. I was a lacto-vegetarian, then transition into vegan, then vegan/50% raw, then into 100% raw. I have to say, It's been a very nice, smooth transition. I tried doing a 100% raw diet lifestyle 6 years ago. Unfortunatelly, I didn't make it past 4 months. Truth be told, 6 years ago I did not have the support nor the resources I have available today. Glad I'm back! Feeling great!
