Well, when the local farmers no longer have their produce around here, it's time to find an organic food co-op.
I was blessed to have someone turn me on to one!!!

I suppose it depends on where you live. Our winters are fairly mild here so I can usually keep onions through the winter and some herbs fairly late. My parsley is still going strong. I sometimes do herbs in my kitchen garden window and I have a little indoor tomato plant there now. I also do sprouts during the winter.

Yeah...I'm thinking sprouts and a small herb garden in my kitchen. Our winters are mild here, so I was wondering if there were late crops to plant....or maybe it's too late for that.

Wendi - I'm thinking in NC? It's too late for any cold crops. Sorry.
I too am sprouting like a crazy person. I just got two Freshlife sprouters and I LOVE THEM! They are so easy to use. I'm doing wheatgrass in a double barrel one and in the other I'm sprouting alfalfa and rye. They are very "user friendly" and quiet. I got mine from www.877myjuicer.com. These are good folks to deal with too.
I'm doing lots of green smoothies. That is the best way to compliment a raw diet. And they are easy and fast and filling!

Thanks VFL....I have been thinking of getting a sprouter....I have alot of trouble actually loosing small seeds...they rinse OUT of my colander! This system seems very fool proof for those of us who are having trouble sprouting.

I did quite a bit of reading before I purchased these. I think they are THE best sprouter around. I've tired various kinds, but these I really like.
They have a system in which the water is sprayed onto the seeds a few times per hour. In the single sprout barrel, it spins, in my double, it doesn't, but that's okay, the trays are designed so that all the seeds get wet. Just once a day I change the water. It's THAT simple. I put both barrels into a big bowl to catch the water and then change it. I think that is critical because it's fresh water then being used. They sprout a good bit at a time.
Very worthwhile investment I think.

Vegan,
Have you tried wheatgrass in the trays with soil growing your own? How much grass are you drinking daily? Seeing any health results or benefits?
Need any special lighting or temperatures?
Would you recommend single or double barrel?
How long does it take to get the grass using the sprouter method by Freshlife?
Why not jars and sprouting lids for others besides wheatgrass? I have found it very easy, soak seeds, rinse water, drain, and done in few days.
What's advantage here please? Thanks.

I saw I believe a sprouter at the site that just grows wheatgrass. Now I see how the person selling to health food store grows his wheatgrass without soil and sells those nice long roots along with it. Interesting. He probably gets at leaast 4 squares after he cuts up the finished result.

Did you purchase additional barrel $39.99 then?
Using any hdy. perioxide 3% as I thought I heard that is good for the seeds but not sure how to use it either.
Did you get this: Additional barrels available so you can grow additional sprouts all the time (The expansion kit includes an extra barrel, top and bottom seed trays, the water tube assembly, and three stainless steel clips for support)
How many types of seeds can you grow at the same time? If you have a single barrel, you are able to grow only one kind of seeds or at there dividers on each barrel?
You don't soak your seeds before sprouting here? Thanks. Whatever you can share is very appreciated. Great price too.

There's a great book about simple, four season gardening in cold climates called, Four Season Harvest. The author's name is Coleman and he lives in Maine, I think.

Thanks asil...I'll check that out!
