    Unhappy Dilemma...

    Maybe it's because I don't have a vegetarian/vegan background... but I miss meat.

It's hunting season here, which means my boyfriend and half the state are out to get a moose and fill the freezer. I always help with the cutting and wrapping since I don't go out and shoot it. I pretty much stopped eating beef a few years ago and moose is about the only "red" meat I eat... it's so much lower in fat and better looking than beef.

So last night I get home, and turns out my boyfriend shot a grouse yesterday so he wants me to make something with it. Okay, maybe it's my fault for picking on him this summer about how he hasn't shot a bird lately or something, but now I've got this grouse in my fridge (thank goodness he cleaned it!) to fix for dinner one of these days.

I guess my point is that I miss eating that stuff...

    Hi Magnolia,

    *deep breath*
I'm sorry you are missing it, if you don't want to eat it maybe you can look into why it's not so good for you?
Or maybe go on the hunt? But if this is a way of life for you that prob wouldn't put you off eh?
What about eating it and seeing how you feel. That might remind you why you chose not to - like I did with many things, I allowed them and listened to my body and my body asked for all raw, it was my mind asking for other stuff and so I did some mind work.

It's easy for me, being vegan is a part of who I am, I didn't realise until I went veggie and felt better in mind and spirit, then I went raw and realised I was vegan and was soooo happy. It's just *me*. I went and looked into all the vegan stuff then and was so happy not be in that world anymore.

I want to save the moose

All things considered... I'd rather eat a moose than a cow that's pumped full of hormones and drugs

Maybe I haven't been raw long enough to feel a difference because of the food I eat (digestive-wise)?

Too right, the 'meat' industry is scary.

Maybe you're right, how long have you been raw? In that case it might take a while to break the desire for your old foods, it's like me and my addictions/habits for bread etc.

If you are up for it - try doing 21 days without it, that's said to be the time it takes to break a physical habit. Mental/emotional can be different of course.

I can honsetly tell you I do not miss bread anymore, it's taken a while, and it was REALLY hard when my fiance has it and I make him sandwiches and things but honestly - now I don't want it, I even smell it and don't like that smell anymore. I still get tummy rumbles at cooked food though, and fresh baked bread. It takes a while to break conditioning. I do feel for you. Even if i'm a vegan moose lover ;)
All things considered i'd rather drink my foul herbal tea than eat an animal
(and thats saying a lot )

Do you feel better on raw than before yet then?

I'm pretty new to raw... I did it for 7 days in August and then things got all messed up because of company visiting and going out to dinner and other stuff... and me not really being prepared for it.

After about 10 days off, I started back the beginning of this month, so not very long at all.

I can honestly say that I don't feel any different... yet. But I promised myself I'd try it for a full 30 days to see how I'd feel.

I might be wrong but I believe the reason Alissa made the 30 day challenge was because in 30 days everyone can see some postive changes in their life. So don't give up just yet. :)
Actually I am the kind of person who encourages folks if they messed up to get up, dust them selfs off and go again! Everyday is a new day with unlimited potential.

    Thank you Curtis... :)

I am definitely someone who is present-oriented (which drives my friends nuts sometimes)... there is nothing I can do to change yesterday, I can't predict tomorrow. All I can do is live in today

Hey you cutie pie (I can call Mag that cause I know her).

I still make cooked food for DH, but I make sure I've got something that really appeals to me. I love my salad dressing so much, just thinking of a huge salad with my special dressing makes me not want to touch what he's having. You wouldn't believe how many nights he comes home with chinese food! Yeah it smells good, but I sure don't want to touch it.

I'm guessing we're coming up to the time that will challenge a lot of folks new to raw and especially relatively new vegans (like you and me). Thanksgiving, holidays, cold winter....

I can imagine what a challenge this is for you, Mon, living in Alaska. You have a tough time getting a huge variety of fresh produce, and there probably isn't a rawie within a thousand miles of you. :)

I agree w/ Curtis though, stick it out for 30 days and see how you feel.

Yeah Sue.. I'm sure you're right.. probably not another rawie within miles!

It makes it hard to not have the support at home. Jon thinks I'm freaking bonkers for not eating meat, and he gives me a hard time, saying "I'll get you dinner... I'll go out in the yard and pick you some weeds"

I don't mind cooking for him.. it's fun, and not that tempting for me, but I think that he thinks I don't want to eat it because I've never had it before and I'm not known for trying new things. He has a hard time believing that eating it is "bad" for me... I'm sure it's better than eating chicken at least.

Went to Boston's with my brother and his wife & my parents the other night and when my brother ordered, the waitress asked what kind of dressing he wanted on his salad and he said "I don't eat that... that's what food eats" So I order a big salad, and get those kind of comments all night.

And the produce selection... don't even want to think about it. If I keep this up, I'll be living on bananas and apples all winter.

But on the bright side.. 10 days down
