I saw the show
I don't usually watch daytime television but I wanted to see the show. Jillian was a brat and I could not believe that a hamburger could possibly be included in a 'healthy diet.' It was an interesting show although I couldn't stand the 'fighting' I find that so obnoxious.
Anyway, Jillians question about calcium, iron and B12 are so typical of 'nutritionist' ignorance. I just entered graduate school and in both my anatomy and physiology class AND biochemistry it is made very clear that the body makes both B12 and vitamin K in the large intestine. While the large intestine is not a major site for absorption it is the primary source of absorption for these two nutrients. Why would the body make B12 in an area of the body where it couldn't utilize it, that's typical medical dogma for you.
I wish Alissa would have been able to answer the questions posed by Jillian because they are so crucial to a raw food diet and I believe more people would be willing to investigate it if they realized they can get the nutrients they need. I have been asked these same questions by clients and in the beginning I was so amazed at the wide availability of these nutrients. I found iron in oranges, raisins, dates, grains, legumes, green leafy vegetables, just about every plant food has it. Same with calcium.
The show was pretty interesting, I really hope that the raw group results will be good. Americans really need a positive view on raw food. I loved it when Alissa stated that raw food cures diseases all while the doctor shook his head, ahhhh the ignorance of doctors. He was very offended when she said doctors make too much money off prescriptions to care about a cure..ha ha so true. I am excited to see the results show although I don't plan on ever watching the Tyra Banks show again after that, what a joke.

when are they going to reshow it?
I tried the tyrashow.com website and the oxygen.com site (bc that is where they show and reshow the tyrashow late night, 11pm and 12am - at least eastcoast) but it didn't have anything about reshowing the diet episode this week.
I'm wondering if you anyone can be more insightful about this?
I really wanna see it!
thanks :)

Her website shows that, in some markets, it reruns 2 weeks after the original show. You can see if your city is one of them.
Regardless, I understand that it will be available to watch through www.alissacohen.com at some point. I bet the moderators will know!

Hey all! I wanted to add my 2 cents here. I watched the show (a friend taped it for me) and I was almost hurt by the other two, Jillian and Dr. Ian's rudeness. Poor Alissa. Questions were posed and she was not allowed to answer them. I didn't understand that? Jillian IS a brat - I thought she was great on The Biggest Loser, but she stunk on Tyra's show and Dr. Ian, well, he was arrogant, beligerant (sp?), and rude. They both were rude, I thought. But I guess the title The Diet WARS had something to do with the anger aspect. PLUS, and we all know this, eating SAD food makes one irritable and madder.
I felt so bad for Alissa. Here she sat quietly and listened while each of the others went through their plans.
Another thing that really made me not want to even give Dr. Ian a chance was when Tyra (and by the way, you go girl) pretty much forced him to taste the Angel hair pasta and marinara. Then he pretended to keel over. How rude!
I hope Alissa's team will kick butt with weight loss and a general well-being all over.
I stand and applaud Alissa for getting up in front of everyone and at least trying to tell the benefits of eating raw. There are so many narrow minds out there. So much brain-washing going on. It's sad.
Funny side note? The gal that taped the show for me? She went out yesterday and bought the Fat Smash book (Dr. Ian's).
< sigh >
I tried to turn her on to raw...

Veganforlife,
Support your friend as much as you can. When she realizes that diets do not work then try to help her achieve her goals. If she is really serious she will figure it out.

Oh, I sure will! She sees my transformation and is amazed. She's a little Italian gal, used to eating, but definitely I'll support her.
I've brought in some raw brownies for her and she was amazed!

Have not been able to find this show aired locally. Anyone have recorded and willing to make a copy? I would be happy to contribute some money, would prefer dvd...thanks, Virginia
-
Virginia - supposedly this will be on Alissa's web site soon and we'll be able to view it there.

"What reason do you think raw won't be widespread?"
"Because doctors make too much money prescribing medications"
Did you HEAR the gasp and chuckle of the audience! I admired her for having the nerve to stand up and SAY that!

I checked the tyrashow.com and found a brief synopsis of the diet wars show. Sadly, Alissa did not win...But she won 2nd place! Here's a link to the webpage... http://tyrashow.warnerbros.com/show_...cap_wed71.html
