    Default Favorite raw foods

I just found this site today. It's nice to find others who eat the way I do. All of the people I know eat only cooked. I've been transitioning to a raw diet for about a year. I eat mostly raw - about 95% I guess. I was wondering what everyone's favorite raw foods were - that you eat alot. I love simple raw soups, salads, smoothies.

    Garden Granny,

You read my mind, I was just going to start a thread like this today.
Here are my favourite raw foods.

Sweet Fruit: Apples, pears, bananas, grapes, mangos, dates, cheries, blueberries.
Non sweeth fruit: avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, red peppers.
    Greens: Spinach, Lettuce (all kinds)
    Vegies: Carrots, Green beans
Nut & seeds: Hazelnuts, walnuts, sesami seeds, sunflower seeds.
    Other: Seaweed (Nori), Olive oil.

Here are some raw foods I don't like that much:
Broccoli & califlower, melons, kale, onions & garlic (I actually dislike onions & garlic with a passion)

Foods alergic to: Oranges & other citrus fruit & strawberries.
Hopefully I would be able to tolerate them better, once I am on this diet a little longer.

For those of you that have been raw for a while, how did your food prefferences change with time?

    Hi Garden Granny,

    Welcome to you...

Since I haven't been 100% raw until just recently, there are not a lot of recipes that I have tried. However, of those I have tried, the ones that I loved are:

    Raw chili
    Onion cracker's (MadMel's version)
    Pad Thai
    Seaweed-Cucumber Salad (my own version)
    Raw spaghetti and marinara
    Vietnamese Spring Rolls
    Falafel
    Tabouli (from the Garden Diet)

Some of my simple staples include water from a young Thai coconut, green juices/smoothies, salads with various dressings.

All the best to you on your journey. I can appreciate what you said in your other post about the eating habits of those around you because I lived all my life in California until moving to VA two years ago when I finally met my prince. Although I have struggled with weight on and off, I have eaten fairly healthy (lots of fresh fruits and veggies that I used to get at Whole Foods and Trader Joes) in contrast to many of my friends who don't appreciate salads or fresh veggies.

1 thing ive found since going raw and starting to make own salad dressings is that pulverizing fresh basil leaves and a clove of garlic together as a base spice for my extra virgin olive oil and raw apple cider vinegar dressing is GREAT !

there is zero comparison between it and using dry basil and garlic powder .

i think im gonna drizzle said dressing on a sliced up tomato right now .

and welcome to the site GG ! :)

    Default try this kale recipe!

I have so many raw foods that I love... but here is one that I can't live without! It is soo easy too!! VeryBerry try this recipe and see if you still don't like Kale!!

Kale, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, nama shoyu.... mix together, but the secret is to get your hands really in there and rub the dressing into the kale, it will marinate the kale.... keep rubbing until the kale is soft, taste and see if you need to make any adjustments with the flavor. It is soo yummy!!

I don't do a lot of recipes although I do like the onion bread, RP's brownies and the coconut fudge ball variation I came up with, and the lemon or lime chews. I also came up with a faux Sahale snack that is wonderful.

Mainly I eat pumpkin seeds, nuts, and cut up vegetables. Favorite vegetables are celery, carrots, onions, tomatoes and peppers.

I also like raw corn on occasion and some sprouts like lentils and radishes.

Drinking fresh carrot/ginger/apple juices was one of the things that helped me to go raw. I sometimes replaced my non-raw meals with that.

    My Favorite Foods

    Bananas

    Carrots

    Celery

    Ginger (for juicing only)

    Green Seedless Grapes

    Macadamia Nuts

    Kiwi

    Strawberries

Cantaloupe (I could easily eat 3 in one sitting)

    Watermelon

I've not tried any of Alissa recipes yet....but I will be soon

I have to have my breakfast of fresh OJ + 1/2 bananna whipped up in the blender - I found organic valencia oranges at the farmers market for $17.00 for a case of 88. I love snacking on Brazil nuts. For lunch/dinner I love big raw salads with romaine lettuce, radishes, carrots, sunflower seeds, tomatoe, bell pepper, cucumber & avocado - topped with tahini dressing. I also juice carrots for a delicious carrot soup with garlic, curry, & avocado blended together. I love raw apple pie, & fresh apples are great - I love the Honeycrisp ones.
