Default Raw at a motorcycle rally

Monday will be my 30th day of my 30 day juice fast. I've lost 27 pounds and I feel great. I've lost a total of 47 since going raw.

In the back of my mind, I knew this was approaching but I never thought about how I would address it. Tomorrow, Day 29, I take off for a huge motorcycle rally in Galveston -- 300k attendees, beer, fried foods, SRO restaurants, etc. etc.

Negative: There's nothing between Dallas & Houston on I-45 but some gas stations/fast food places.
Positive: I'll make a fruit smoothie in the morning, take bottled water and hope for the best during the next 309 miles.

Negative: How the heck do I wean off of a juice fast in a location with no juicer and probably no blender? And no, there's no where to strap these appliances to the back of my Harley...
Positive: My comped room was upgraded today to a facility that has it's own kitchen so I can buy some fruit/vegs at the market to have on hand.

Negative: The sight of greasy, roasted meat or smell of deep fried battered powdered sugared anything is making me do that Elvis sneer in disgust. And there's going to be lots of this kind of stuff surrounding me this week.
Positive: Our publicist - who doesn't sugar coat anything - was raving about how good I looked at a photo shoot on Tuesday!

Negative: Dozens of meetings with people in loud, noisy situations where libations are being poured with a heavy hand.
Positive: I'm buzzing on feeling great so maybe I can take advantage of those persons that aren't firing on all pistons! LOL...naughty thinking, I know.

All in all - it should be an interesting week.

I would love to hear from others that work in "alternative" career fields and some of the challenges you face and your improvised solutions.

    Raine,

I would love to know more about your juice fast. That is totally amazing and so happy for you. I just had to let you know even though I can't answer your concerns. Maybe start a topic for something like Raine's Juice Fast dumps 30 pounds. Congrat. You must be proud of yourself as I am of you. Sounds like you are down close to 3 sizes from the fast and almost 5 sizes over all. Now give yourself a hug!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What kind of work are you involved in as you had to do a photo shoot? Fabulous compliment to you from publicist!

    Thanks.

That is AWESOME. I need the willpower to do a juice cleanse for a week, much less a month.

Carolg -- thanks for the compliment. I'm a producer and in pre-production for a new series. Since my background is media relations for a major record label, I knew that the PR people look for every opportunity to promote someone/something. SO...in the vein of health/vanity reasons, I had decided now or never as far as toning up.

I've also got a handful of people around me that are watching what I'm doing because they need to tone up a bit themselves. So far, 2 of them have started eating more raw and juicing and they are amazed at the difference in how they feel. One of them had been eating raw for 5 days, went to a birthday celebration at Cheesecake Factory - ate a big bowl of pasta and a slice of cheesecake. That would have been normal for him -- this time, he was horrifically miserable for hours afterwards!

I've done a lot of carrot/celery/1 clove garlic and oj/banana/blueberries. Lots of water and green tea.

    Days 1-3 were great.
Days 4-7 were tough - detoxing and felt lethargic.
Days 8+ - energy level shot back up.

I also do 20 minutes of pilates every morning. In just the FIRST week, my resting heart rate went from 100+ to just 70!!! Also, activities that used to get me winded, don't even phase me now.

I think the most surprising aspect of this fast was the emotional/spiritual detoxing that happens as well. I had done 3 - 5 day juice fasts before, but nothing like this duration....it definitely takes things to a whole new level.

For most people there will probably never be a good time to do a long fast -- but the benefits are so amazing. As insanely busy as I am, this was the best thing I could have done at this point. My thinking is clearer, my energy has increased and an overall sense of well being.

AND...it gives you an amazing sense of accomplishment and self-esteem boost!

Congradulations on your effort and willpower. I find grabbing one of theose 5 lb. bags of apples helps alot. I might get a bit tired of apples but I have something good to eat. That should be pretty well tolerated as a fast breaker. Good luck and have fun!!

I have a sissy bar on the back of my Harley and pack a cooler inside a Harley back pack. The stuff stays cool for a long time with a couple dry ice packs It's like a double insulator.

    Have fun and good luck!

Raine, I have nothing to offer you as I am not in an alternate career and you sound like you know more than me about raw but I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy everything you write and I was shy to answer this thread because I only have to say that this one makes me laugh and I will be checking for your updates. You have a great time!

    Raine,
Thanks for more detailed info. on your fast. See you are a role model, a living walking example of how eating behaviors, can change "body design." I appreciate your time sharing.

OT: Since I don't have a singing voice, or haven't seen improvement through raw, I'm not your best material for the singing voice. I hope someday to be the speaking voice to millions. Communications--PR, marketing part, talking, writing, as well as dreaming new ideas. Activitely promoted rawhike.com

Best to you Raine. I'm anxious to hear more as things change.

    Raine,
Did you follow a specific juice fast? I really struggled with headache's from juice fast. I have been raw for about 6 months a handful of cooked food but I was well into being 100% when I started the fast. I would love some suggestions. cdepalmer@triad.rr.com
    Thanks,
    Cindy
