powdered greens & transition foods
Hi. I was wondering what you thought about Vitamineral Green. I find it much easier & cheaper to consume this twice a day, than to keep running to the store to purchase greens. I have two young kids and try to simplify my life as much as possible. As is I spend every free moment in the kitchen.
Also, I am in the process of transitioning and currently find the need to eat something cooked at the end of the day. Anybody else eat raw during day and something lightly cooked at the end? What do you consume?
Thanks so much.

hi , welcome to alissas site ,
on lightly cooked it for me was lightly steamed vegi like brocoli , corn on cobb , cauliflower , etc .
if i needed heavier it was brown rice . those were my last adjustment foods .
and to me on greens maybe look at growing wheatgrass in plastic dish pans in like 3 inches of soil that you cut off at soil when it gets beyond say 4 inches tall then add to smoothies as opposed to the dry greens which to me arent no where near as nutricious . but im not a scientist / expert , and thusly maybe powdered greens are good . but just by instinct ide put up a big argument against them compared to raw . and the wheat grass is cheap plus easy plus fast to grow . though like your saying simplifying factor could make wheatgrass not for you .
goodday :)

I think the green powders are good in that they give you more than you could ever consume in a typical day, however fresh green juice is best. So I use the green powders in a drink every few days but stick to two green juices every day.

Hello Michigan Roman- You make it sound like growing wheat grass is so easy- IS IT?? :) Is it grown indoors/require alot of sunlight/need certain temperatures to grow??
And, I thought Wheat Grass is difficult to blend and that you need a vitamix or a Champion Blender to blend it well. Let me know if you have experienced otherwise.
Thanks

I don't know about green powders, if it is working for you, I'd say fine, I must do the 100% raw thing for me.
If you could get the green powders from Alissa, that are 100% raw, I'd say this is much better.
I prefer to eat my foods and enjoy them, they seem more like we are exchanging a relationship of sorts if I eat them instead of drink them.
I mean I do drink almond milk and orange juice, but I really enjoy eating my foods as much as possible.
I've spent so much of my life eating whatever without really enjoying it, that now that I eat so little I really enjoy each bite of food, chew it alot and feel like I know the food as a "life force" as I'm consuming it.
there's an energy there, the powdered foods don't have that same energy, haven't tried Alissa's greens yet, so don't know about them.

I believe VMG powder is raw. I don't use it as a replacement for greens, certainly. It is a great addition to your diet though, IMO. I have three tiny ones and generally get my greens in drink form (kale blended with lemon and an apple.) I also have at least one big salad a day.

What's helping me...
Hi There! I am working through the same phase...almost...
I have been slowing working my way from cooked to raw, omni to veggie. I personally have terrible digestion and have been working the food combining charts heavily, both one I found online and Alissa's (her book and dvd are fab, order them! Or as soon as you can!).
What I find is that I prioritize what I am eating by how long each thing takes to digest. When I consider the digestion times and nutrient values of each thing I put in my mouth, and whether or not it is raw or cooked, I am finding over the last few weeks that raw, low fat is winning a very fast race. I am still having trouble giving up my coffee Oh well...I love my latte...after reading about how milk and milk products contribute to tumor growth, I am not drinking them at home anymore and I don't want to spend the $ to buy them very often, so that is a bonus! This formula-food combining has cut out 95% of all the cooked foods from my diet, because I can't seem to bring myself to eat much "dead" food now after reading extensively about enzymes and how cooked foods tax your organs. I already have enough issues!
If I decide to eat cooked foods, I am choosing Veggie now, sometimes fish but rarely, over everything else and I take digestive enzymes. I don't know that they do that much good and I notice that my digestion suffers when I do this, and believe me I am plenty of tired of feeling miserable!
So I suppose I am psyching myself out but it is totally working for me...
I am also finding that smoothies from Kale and parsley mixed with fruit along with healthy doses of mejool dates are curbing most of my cravings.
Hope you found something in that babble! ;)

Hi Nix,
- Are the enzymes working for you? I can't make this up in your text;
- You seem to have read "digestion charts". Can you put these in this thread?
Are they all for raw food?
- Do you also have charts to compare digestiontime of raw food <>agianst cooked? Specially like to know nuts

hi adrian ,
wheat grass is VERY EASY .
its just a larger version of the grass on your yard .
can grow outside til too cold , then i grow in plastic dish pans with 3 inches of rich soil from my garden . i cover with about a half inch soil and water real well like every 2 - 3 days . i buy seeds dirt cheap at a bulk store , ive grown both hard and soft wheat but i know alissa says soft for juicing . it grows with minimal sun light cuz here in michigan weve cloudy winters and ive grown it like 8 feet from an east window . after about a week its around 5 inches and good to go , i cut about 150 - 200 blades off at dirt level with the cheap utility sisscors . then i cut them into half inch long bits over the blender filled half with cold water . blend on high for a minute . let stand say ten minutes to allow nutrients to seep out of blades . then strain grass out through a medium wholed strainer . that easy .
oh ya , i suggest buying dark colored plastic dish pans cuz they hide the dirt smudges better so they look better sitting around the house .
i dont think i said to sprinkle seeds in pan at a rate of about 1 per 1/3 inch .
if never had it def taste green so dont eat nothing sweet before hand or itll taste real tart .
i think i read some say squeeze in lemon which sounds good but nev tryed .
well thats it pal , and thankfully without anymore stupid rocky imitations by me ;) .

The powdered greens may be good to use whilst travelling or in an emergency situation, but to me they couldn't replace the fresh stuff.
I purchased Perfect Food and had every intention of using it, but couldn't get passed the taste, which was too strong for me. Maybe the kind you are using is more palateable.
So I will have this huge jar of it in my pantry, and would love to figure out what to do with it!

The powdered greens are meant to supplement, not replace fresh greens. I use them to make sure I'm getting all the nutrients I need.
Can't stand the taste of Vitamineral Green (same as Alissa's). Though maybe if it's disguised really well in a smoothie with tons of fruit and stuff it can be tolerable. I use Pure Synergy, which surprisingly tastes good even mixed with just water.

Hey Michigan Roman, (YO MICHIGAN) LOL!!!
You can Yo Adrian me anytime you want-ha ha
Anyway, Thanks for the tips and info on growing wheat grass. I will have to look for the seeds, not sure which stores carry them. I saw wheat berries, I think, and bought some to have on hand for some of the recipes I saw in Alissa's book. Not sure if they are the same thing or not. And just one more question if I may... Do you have a Champion or a really powerful blender to blend the wheat grass, or just an ordinary blender. I don't have a vitamix or champion, that is why I am asking.
Thanks again,
YO Adrian

Hey Michigan Roman,
Sorry-I am not too big on Movies, and didn't even watch the Rocky Movies. I will have to ask hubby unless someone beats me to it. It probably is Sylvester Stallone in one of his movies.
Well, once again thanks for the info. I will have to see what I can plant the seeds in and find a place to put them. I don't know what is N, S, E or W in my house and where would be the best place to put the grass. I don't have a green thumb. I try to keep houseplants, but I only do so, so. I have a few with some brown leaves on them now and can't figure out why. Sometimes I forget to water them, but not often...
If I get this wheatgrass thing going right, I will holla at cha... YO Michigan Roman!!! ;)
