    Exclamation The Ultimate Authority

Okay, I've read other posts and I'm still confused. Alissa's book says be careful of food combining--got it! However, is it okay to combine fruit with other fruit when juicing or blending? I can't find any threads on that. I already know fruit and celery and lettuce mix, but what about fruit? (Sweet fruit mixed with acidic fruit mixed with sub-acidic fruit.)

For instance: Alissa says melon should be eaten alone, BUT what if I blend it with a banana? (Which tastes very good, by the way.)

So what the ultimate authority on this?

There is no ultimate authority probably :) But my question is... how can she say to be careful with food combining, but have so many dessert that combine "improperly"???

Actually your stomach is the ultimate authority. If the combination sits well with you, no gas, stomach problems, etc. you should be fine to combine.

The guide in Alissa's book is wonderful though - it is by Dr. Graham - I have one of those on my fridge.

It will not do you any obvious harm to mix melon with other fruits but the enzymes needed to digest them will clash and cancel each other out so you will not digest it as well as you should and will loose a lot of the benefits.

Yes, your stomach is the ultimate authority. :)

There are lots of fancy fruit combining rules, fortunately my digestion is just fine combing acid/sub-acid/whatevah. The only exception for me is I do always eat melon alone, mostly because to me, melon doesn't taste good eaten with other fruits!

Alissa's book is really geared towards people first going raw, and it's an awesome, awesome resource. For a lot of raw folk, proper food combining isn't an issue for a good, long while after going raw. If you're just starting out, don't worry about the fancy rules, you'll just make yourself crazy. :)

    .... ditto....

Most people, when they first go raw, especially after having on a SAD and even as vegetarians, have not been aware of food combining so, eating whatever, whenever as long as it's raw will be beneficial. AS their systems clean out, then they will naturally find what works ~ or doesn't work for them and adjust.
