back on track after depression
Ok, I've been getting myself turned around after the little depression episode as we tried changing my medicines. If you don't know, we were trying to decrease because of all the wonderful things raw food has done for me. Well, it didn't work like we (DO and I) thought and I crashed hard. I broke off raw in part......mostly late night when totally exhausted and exasperated with life........but quickly realized what was going on and got back on. Here's the deal........I am craving peanut butter bread! You know,.....plain white bread, peanut butter and topped with butter. Why?????? Just one piece and it's over. I'm trying so hard. The will power goes out the window when I get super tired, angry or frustrated.......no more than one a day. I think I could eat a whole loaf topped with peanut butter and butter.......so there's still some willpower. Is my body requesting something and the only thing I can guess is that??????

Hiya Kristi,
I'm so pleased for you that you are feeling turned around ((( kristi )))
I just wanted to say I think you're pretty amazing for turning yourself around and getting back on raw or whatever works for you - this is the bit I find the hardest for me, the turning around part.
I have probs in the evenings too, with craving sweets. For me it even happens when emotionally everythings fine, I think for me the evening is the vulnerable part of the day, my defenses are down and instead of taking this and working with it, it's goos tha tthe defenses are down afterall, I don't - I cave in and dull it all with food. ALSO - I feel like its triggered by a nutritional need as well, the 2 for me are going hand in hand.
When did you last 'cave' and have peanut butter bread? Thing is.. is takes a wile for the addictive urges to go..
Also... it is said that we can crave something when our body is actually detoxing it - great news so maybe your body is detoxing past peanutbutter/butter/bread...
If it's that then how about finding a raw version of what you crave to tide you through the time until it passes?
God I soooo know how the bread cravings feel... trust me though, they pass, they really do!!
Love

(((Kristi))) I concur with Thunderdancer.

I've tried an alternative of banana-flax crackers and nut butter but I will eat and entire batch very quickly!!!!!!!

Hi Kristi!
This is tough stuff you're going through - sounds like you're really hanging in there. Try not to beat yourself up - this is something I struggle with on a constant basis. I'm not perfect, and I'm going to have breakdowns, and I am going to pick myself back up and start all over again - it's 100% better than quitting all together.
Look how far you've come! Even in my tiny little three days raw, complete with migraines, I'm happier than I've been in a long time. I'm losing weight and I know my body likes the food I am eating and that I'm on my way to living a fuller and happier life.
Love to you and all,
Melissa

I think sometimes we focus on what we are doing wrong rather than what we are doing right. Keep in mind all the good things you have done for yourself!.
I find that eating some sweet fruit tends to curb that carb crave. But you have to catch it before it gets too strong.
You could be eating worse than flax crackers and nut butters!. See it as a treat - comfort food - and know you can move on.

I agree with Lil, always focus on the good things more than when we make a mistake. Always remember Kristi everyday is a new day! Each new day brings new hope and a new start. Focus on the great things you have accomplished and the will power to continue will be there. :)

Hey Kristi:
Glad you're feeling better! You're definitely not the only one with cravings, lately. I too have given in late at night, and I'm now convinced that the only way to beat cravings is to have a lot of good things prepared ahead. Hmm...didn't Alissa say that in her book? How quickly I forgot.
Hope you continue onward and upward.
Kathy :)

When you were doing great on raw, and someone was eating pizza, there's no way you would have eaten the pizza, right? Remember that feeling! You had the strength, you can get it back. Find something in the raw world that feeds your need. How about flax crackers with coconut butter and almond butter. That's pretty near to what you're craving. Add a little sea salt to the coconut butter (cold coconut oil) and I think it tastes better than cow butter any day!

Good suggestion! I like it even better with Raw Essene Bread. It has the chewy texture I enjoy and indeed fills that desire for bread, 'cause it *is* bread :)

I have come to realize that sometimes you can get more joy from not accepting food. Today the grandmother of the family I am staying with came over and she had these chocolate cookie/tortes of some kind. The family knows I am eating only raw food but about a month ago we were at a family gathering and I ate some desserts there. Anyway they had saved the last one for me and I was really tempted to take it, not only because I have a terrible weakness for chocolate and cookies but I was tempted because I didn't want to offend anyone or be impolite. After politely refusing (several times) the offer I felt a little bad at the time, but now I realize I did the right thing. I can't describe how good it makes me feel to know that I stayed strong and didn't give in. I am sure now that it has given me more and longer lasting pleasure than eating it would have done! I think it's important to listen to your cravings and find something that is raw which satisfy you and everyone here has made really great suggestions. I have never had coconut butter before but it sounds delicious. I often crave peanut butter as well so I always have some organic raw almond butter around and it helps immensely!

Thank you all very much. The support and the reminders are incredible. All of you mean so much to me. I haven't given in today. I'm trying to eat more (raw of course) to keep the cravings at bay. I'm eating a delish pudding right now. It is my new comfort food. I'll make some banana-flax crackers this weekend. Thanks to all of you. and as a moderator I thought I'd be helping all of you.......I am amazed at the knowledge, compassion and love you all have! Thanks again!

Kristi,
Glad you are feeling better - you were in my prayers and know that there a wonderful blessings for you! Talking about cravings - it must be the moon. I like Sue's suggestions and will need to take Alissa book and spend the whole day making stuff that I really like - that'll be cool, a whole day of making sweets, and know that they are good for me as well as good to me!
My parens are disabled - something I did to my computer when I dropped it - how was I to know that something would happen anyway these are my hugs
{{{{{{{{{{{{Kristi{{{{{{{{{{{ GUESS I broke that opposite key too!
Be blessed in your comings and your goings and each way will always be good to you :)
